Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
Quote:
PINK is thrilled by the response to her anti-Bush song MR PRESIDENT, because it has inspired fans to take up the cause.
The song, which features on her new album I'M NOT DEAD, includes lyrics lambasting GEORGE W BUSH: "Dear Mr President/What do you feel when you see all the homeless in the street/Do you pray at night before you go to sleep."
It is unlikely to be approved for release as a single in the US, but Pink is more satisfied by the response it has provoked among civil liberties campaigners and fans, many of whom have created their own videos to accompany it for online broadcaster Youtube.
Pink says, "I've been crying my eyes out watching the videos on Youtube (online broadcaster) - that song has a life of its own now. The Civil Liberties Union has now got involved because a 10-year-old was banned from performing it at her elementary school."

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
Love the lyrics!
Quote:
"Dear Mr. President"
PINK (feat. Indigo Girls)
Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why
Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We're not dumb and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
I don't think the homeless problem is the fault of one person - even if he is the president. Seems to me that she thinks she's the one who's better than another. Not that I support everything the president does, but I don't blame him for every damn thing going wrong in the country.

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
His policies have increased poverty by a very wide margin, the income gap has grown exponentially, tens of millions have no health insurance, and the jobs he has created are unsuitable for supporting families because they all pay min. wage.
So yeah, in effect he's created a hell of a lot of poverty

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
True, and I'm not defending him or his policies - when someone else is elected, it'll still be his fault. People just hate that country fucker. Yeah, he's slow & can't speak well, but damn he's not out forcing people out of their homes. There has to come a time when people take responsibility for themselves. He's not putting shit in my pocket - as we all know, they are taking out - but I manage to get by - support myself & my child, am not on welfare, foodstamps and am not homeless. Yeah, there should be policies in place to protect the poor and the needy and the homeless & maybe even the Pete Doherty's of the world, but one person is not and can not do that.

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
The repukes control Congress and the White House. Bush is their brand, their figurehead, their representative to the nation.
According to him, he's 'the decider'.
Thus, trapped by his own logic, he's responsible.
p.s. heh.. country fucker

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
Please, you know he's only reading what someone else writes for him when he can - he's barely literate! He was obviously a child that got left behind. Someone else will get a shot & I hope they do a better job. I hate politics!

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
I don't think it's meant to be taken THAT literally. Plus, the intention seems more to draw his attention to the poverty, not blame him for it.
It's a surprisingly well written song.

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
Well, oddly, she's no slouch when it comes to writing. It seems very genuine, simple, yet impacting.
I especially liked that song about her family breaking up and her father leaving.. it was written from the point of view of a child, I thought that was a very interesting perspective to take. It was also quite heartfelt.

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
I think she meant the song just THAT literally. That's her right here in this country to say anything she wants. Her father is a Vietnam Vet and with so many comparisons being made to Iraq and Vietnam - it's obvious she has strong feelings about this topic - and no, I don't believe that it's "just about the homeless".

Re: Pink thrilled by response to anti-Bush song 'Mr President'
I kind of wish Pink would start using her talent to do something besides bash people--that seems to be her latest gimmick...

I *heart* Pink. I always have, slightly skeezy appearance and all. You can tell that she really puts herself into her music.

Now if she would just blow her husband from time to time life would be grand! LOL
Seriously - I find her to be very talented and a good role model for young girls today.
