****EXCLUSIVE****
For nearly two weeks, Janet Jackson fans were on the edge of their seats waiting for a special surprise from the superstar. That's because in a note on her website, Jackson told fans to "expect something special." Rumors circulated the internet that Jackson would release a duet with Mariah Carey, or that she would tour with her brother Michael, or that she would announce wedding plans with her longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri.
But yesterday at noon, Janet fans finally received their surprise - the online release of her bland new single Weekend. The latest song, which offers Janet singing over an unorthodox techno beat, is a remake of a lukewarm hit from the 1980s.
Almost immediately after it's release, however, MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Jackson fans expressed their disapproval. A few angered fans staged a coup on the singer's message board, using it to blast scathing criticism at the new song and at the singer.
Nearly all the posts on Jackson's message board were negative. One fan expressed his anger saying, "Janet made us wait weeks for this trash ... I can't believe how terrible it is." Another disappointed fan commented that Jackson "sounded like she was singing karaoke." An enraged fan urged Janet to name her new album Flop-mita Ho, in reference to Jackson's less-than-successful album, Damita Jo.
The harsh criticism of Janet's latest release has had an apparent effect on the Jackson camp. In a stunning reversal, Weekend is no longer available for download on Jackson's website. In its place is a note from Jackson explaining that "Weekend is not my first single, nor is it on my album."

That's hilarious. People who have nothing better to do than check a has-beens web site for weeks on end finally loose their sh*t.

I have no real love for Janet, but fans with an inflated sense of entitlement piss me off. Heaven forbid she release a song on her website and give fans a teaser for a few weeks in advance. So they were hoping for somthing "bigger" - get over it. So the song sucks - it's not a personal affront. Artists can do what they want with their own material and on their own websites, and a lot won't even release any material for free or in advance.
What exactly would a marriage announcement have gotten them anyway? How would that have benefited the fans?

I was a fan of Janet's, back a decade & a few ago. What's to be a fan about now?
Plus, I know you're not responsible for the actions of your family, but when you whisper & huddle closely with them in the denial bubble, their ick rubs off on you.
