Nick Carter Up for Assault Charges

Authorities are investigating a woman's sexual assault claim, involving Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter and an assistant, the Key West police chief said Thursday.

Carter, an assistant and two young women were spending the night at the Simonton Street home of Tom Oosterhoudt, a former city commissioner and Carter's friend, on March 27 when the assault allegedly occurred around midnight, Police Chief Bill Mauldin said.

The women, who were vacationing in Key West, returned to their home in Waukesha County, Wis. One of the women complained to police there on March 28.


"Any allegation of sexual assault by Mr. Carter is absolutely not true," said Marathon lawyer Jay Hershoff, who, along with Miami Attorney John Sale, has been retained to represent Carter. Police have talked with both attorneys. "When it is all said and done there should not be an arrest or an indictment. He [Carter] vehemently denies this."

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office are questioning the victim and relaying the information to Key West detectives, Mauldin said.

The woman claims she met Carter through his brother, and that Nick Carter paid for their trip to Key West.

Key West detectives and Monroe County prosecutors met Thursday to discuss the investigation.

Carter, who lives in Los Angeles, visited Key West after a recent tour, Oosterhoudt said.

"Nick is a world-class musician who just got off tour with the Backstreet Boys. He has hundreds of women waiting for him after concerts," said Oosterhoudt, who has been friends with Carter for years. "Nothing happened. This is ridiculous. It is just incomprehensible .... If this wasn't Nick Carter this would be yesterday's news.

"We are totally cooperating with the investigation," Oosterhoudt said.

Carter, 27, lived with his family in Marathon for several years and often stays at Oosterhoudt's family compound, Casa Antigua.

First of all, I'd never consider Nick a 'world-class musician'.

Secondly, I don't believe this story. I'm not, nor have I ever been a Nic/BSB fan so I have nothing to lose in staying this. These stories are all starting to sound the same to me. The story reeks of another opportunist who probably flirted like hell with him so that she could run to the police with her tale.

Plus, if some guy pays for you to fly to Florida, what do you think his intentions are? Shuffleboard at the old folks home?? Doubtful.

Whether it's true or not, I don't know - I am skeptical. The fact is, he will probably get away with it. If he did "violate" this girl - anyone know how old she is - then that's terrible. But, there are a lot of girls who are opportunistic and looking for a quick buck and use stories like this for monetary gain. If that is what this girl's doing, then that's terrible.

Couldn'tbe, if this happened as you state it, it is indeed sad and unfortunate. Regardless, I think your sister is in for a long and rough ride through the legal system....if it gets that far.

The line that makes me suspicious throughout your first post is, "...our cousin and aunt have obsessed over Nick Carter for about 4yrs plus". Your words - not mine. Granted, it was your sister who was 'violated' against her will, but how do we (or the courts) really know that your sister wasn't as in awe of Nick once she met him and things simply got out of hand? That's something she will have to prove and I wish her luck. I'm playing devil's advocate here. The whole thing reminds me of when Mike Tyson 'violated' that girl in his hotel room. I remember thinking, "why the hell would anyone go up to his hotel room alone?" The guy - like Nick - has a reputation of doing this sort of thing. These ladies are only asking for trouble.

The other thing I wonder about is why was your sister calling and texting her boyfriend/family? I'd be calling 911 as quick as you can say "lock him up for life." The fact that your cousin was so non-chalant about the whole thing is another thing that will raise suspicion. She can possibly make or break this case. If all this did happen, I - as a family - would be as pissed with this twit (cousin) as I am with Nick!

Please don't get me wrong - I'm not saying it didn't happen. I wasn't there. BUT if she pursues this, she has quite a battle ahead. With so many opportunists out there crying wolf, legitimate abusers are getting off scot free. Look at Michael Jackson!

I am suspicious of you, couldntbe. If you are who you say you are, and if what you say is true, then Godspeed to you all! But the reason I'm skeptical is you kept saying "the victim" and not "my sister." I won't go into why your word choice gives me pause, though. I suspect you did it purposefully to garner support, but I find it off-putting. *shrug*

My point: I'm still skeptical about the whole situation. Because, yes, unfortunately, there are some opportunistic bitches out there who cry "Rape!" to make a buck.
