Travolta's cousin turned down Bond role?
Quote:
JOHN TRAVOLTA's cousin RIKKI LEE TRAVOLTA has revealed he was producers' first choice to play superspy JAMES BOND - but he turned the role down.
The 30-year-old says Bond bosses took so long to announce DANIEL CRAIG as the new 007, because they were busy courting him for the part in CASINO ROYALE.
Travolta claims he was the fans' choice for the role once his name was mentioned among the front-runners for the part, and insists he was deluged with mail from Bond devotees, urging him to play the latest 007.
He received 135,000 copies of the IAN FLEMING book Casino Royale from fans around the globe - he plans to donate them all to libraries and schools.
But Travolta ultimately felt he wasn't the right man to be PIERCE BROSNAN's successor.
He tells Moviehole.net, "James Bond is one of the most dynamic roles in history, and also one of the most extreme and career defining commitments an actor can make.
"After very careful consideration I feel that James Bond might not be the best vehicle for me to commit to at this point."
Instead the less-famous Travolta is in negotiations to play comic book superhero CAPTAIN AMERICA in a new movie.

Yeah RIGHT.

Ok, now I'm confused. Is Rikki Lee saying that HE was the first choice, or that John Travolta was?? I thought he meant John, but apparently this Rikki guy is some kind of performer too.
Quote:
Rikki Lee Travolta is an international recording artist whose albums include hits from a multitude of musicals. His duet 'Dangerous Game' was one of only 67 songs from around the world to be on the 2002 Grammy nomination ballot for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Rikki Lee made musical theatre history in 2003 when he became the first Travolta to appear as Danny Zuko in over 25 years, guest starring in four performances to raise money to fund fine arts programs for under privileged youths.

Nevermind, I figured it out! I missed that last part of the article.

it's like if travolta had sex with a rat and somehow had a baby, then that baby had sex with brendan fraser and only got his hairstyle genes, then that baby had sex with a trailer park and gave birth to that guy.

Apparently he isn't making this up. It was at least a rumor at some point, if you google his name and "bond" there's plenty of mentions of him on various Bond sites. I found this on Hannity.com:
Quote:
UNITED KINGDOM (August 19, 2004)- Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have reportedly narrowed the short list of actors being considered to next play James Bond to five key contenders: Hugh Jackman (X-Men), Eric Bana (The Hulk), Rikki Lee Travolta (Camelot: Excalibur), Adrian Paul (Highlander), and Clive Owen (King Arthur
The would-be Bonds are recognized for making the short list based on their talent, appropriate look for the role, accent, and potential commercial appeal. However the deciding factor on who is ultimately cast could down to age.
Eon Productions, producers of the James Bond film franchise, has remained tight-lipped on their reasoning for looking to recast the spy. However, speculation has the rationale based on the age of recently released former-Bond Pierce Brosnan (51).
Adrian Paul has won several fan popularity polls to be the next Bond. He is a classically trained actor, also trained in martial arts and is former professional dancer. However at 45, he is the senior member of the contending actors.
If Eon Productions indeed opted to not pursue a continued affiliation with Brosnan after he reached the 50-year mark, they would face the same concern with Paul within five years time.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Rikki Lee Travolta matches credentials virtually pound-for-pound with Paul. He too is classically trained with critically acclaimed credits as Shakespeare's Hamlet and Romeo. Likewise he has the martial arts and dance training to make Bond both lethal and smooth.
However, Travolta turns 29 next month. This makes him the youngest of the serious Bond contenders.

Adrian Paul? Are they kidding?
