David Beckham not as smart as his son
Sky News
Quote:
England captain David Beckham has admitted that he finds six-year-old son Brooklyn's homework too tough to tackle. In an interview for the Mail On Sunday's Live magazine, he said he has to turn to wife Victoria for help with Brooklyn's maths. "Their homework is so hard these days," said the soccer star.
"It's done totally differently to what I was teached when I was at school."
He said that when Brooklyn turned to him for help recently, "I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't do this'".
Brooklyn, who will be seven next month, attends the exclusive £12,000-a-term British school Runnymede College in Madrid.
Children are only admitted after passing an IQ test and the school prides itself on stretching its pupils.
Beckham also admitted that he did not have a pre-match "lucky" routine - because he would not be able to remember it.
Key-stage tests include questions such as subtracting 11 from 50.
Another typical homework question for his age group is working out the change from 50p after buying a pencil costing 24p and an eraser priced at 7p.
Beckham's intellectual prowess has been ridiculed by the Press for years

Re: Beckham not as smart as his son
I swear I was the only kid at school who didn't have a parent helping with all my homework. Why do parents feel the need to "help" with homework. If the kid can't do it, you're not going to help by doing it for them!!!

David Beckham can't do 6yr old son's homework
Quote:
February 27, 2006 - 1:14AM
England football captain David Beckham confessed he is befuddled by his six-year-old son Brooklyn's maths homework.
Beckham, 30, admitted to being baffled when Brooklyn recently asked for help with a school assignment and had to turn to his former Spice Girls pop star wife Victoria to help out.
"Their homework is so hard these days. I sat down with Brooklyn the other day - and I was like, 'Victoria, maybe you should do the homework tonight'," Beckham told the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
"I think it was maths, actually. It's done totally differently to what I was teached when I was at school, and you know, I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't do this'.
"Brooklyn was like, 'Please do it with me', and I'm like, 'I'll read your book with you'."
The Real Madrid midfielder's son attends the exclusive Runnymede College in the Spanish capital, which follows the British national curriculum.
The Mail on Sunday gave examples of some national curriculum maths questions set for seven-year-olds. They include: "Bet went to the shop at 11:45. She came back half an hour later. What time did she come back?" and "What is 12 divided by three?"
Beckham also admitted he had no "lucky'' pre-match routines, with them too being tough to remember.
"I find that if I follow a routine ... it gets to the stage where you are thinking, 'Right, was it the left side ... the left boot I put on first, or the right side?'
"There are so many things that can go through your mind."
Beckham is set to skipper England in Wednesday's friendly against Uruguay at Liverpool's Anfield stadium.

Re: Beckham can't do 6yr old son's homework
^^ You know, funny you mention that 'cos one time I was listening to a CD of Peter Ustinov (?) storytelling, I believe he and the CD were an import from England (I used to work at HMV and don't ask me why I was playing THAT!). Anyway, he mentioned, "The swan dived in the water". And I thought that was the most peculiar thing, made me realize that the British may use their past tense words a little differently. Hence the "teached" instead of "taught". Just like Canadians put a "u" in some words like, "glamour" and "neighbour".
Any comments from our friends across the pond?

It's not teached, it's taught; I think it's either dived or dove depending on which past tense you're using

No - even Brits don't use 'teached' it's always 'taught' (or it should be). I find the word 'dove', as in dived, very odd sounding. I think Americans are the only ones who use it? Brits don't.

EDIT: Aha, here's the thread!!! I suck at searching.

The past participle of "teach" is "taught."
She came back at 12:15.
12/3 = 4.
Hamster x venus-flytrap = Beckham's brain.
David Beckham is a colossal idiot if he doesn't know the answers to
these questions.
And I believe this is a good place for this tag:

Re: David Beckham not as smart as his son
I totally agree with David Beckham on this subject. I am 32 and my husband is 34. We have a 7 year old son in second grade. Some of the homework is harder for my husband to help with so I help instead. My husband had more difficulty in school than I did. Even so, sometimes I am a little confused about my son's homework and need to read it over longer. Some of the subjects that our son is learning in the 2nd grade I didn't learn until 3rd or fourth grade. The teaching methods that schools and teachers use nowadays are not as simplified as they were when I was a child. Also they teach the students too much at once now and that can be overwhelming to young children. And to parents that were taught differently a long time ago. Sometimes when you don't use it you lose it.
