Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL has been released on bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of assault in a New York Court.
The catwalk beauty also succeeded in holding onto her passport, after prosecutors requested she surrender it, when the judge heard she was due to fly to South Africa on a charity trip.
Her lawyer DAVID BREITBART argued that she was a guest of former president NELSON MANDELA and would disappoint hundreds of children if she failed to show.
He added, "My client is not a risk of flight. She is probably the most recognisable and most prominent model in the world. There are few places she could go where she would not be noticed."
Campbell is accused of attacking her housekeeper with a mobile phone on Thursday morning (30MAR06) after flying into a fury over a pair of missing jeans.
The star accused the hired help of theft, and allegedly caused a laceration on the back of her head which required four stitches.
The judge at Manhattan Criminal Court put up bail of $3,500 (GBP2,000) and demanded Campbell appear in court again in June (06) on the single charge of felony assault.
She has also been banned from contacting her alleged victim.
