Default Kate Moss calls mother for help.

KATE Moss's mother has flown to America after a call for help from her troubled supermodel daughter.

Mum Linda was on the next flight after the star rang from the exclusive clinic in Arizona where she is battling drug addiction.

Kate, 31, wants her by her side for a week of "family therapy sessions" as she attempts to overcome her cocaine problem.

A friend said Linda has been her daughter's "emotional backbone" since the Mirror revealed last month she was taking drugs.

The friend said: "Linda spoke to Kate every day while she was in New York when the story broke and spoke to her in Arizona as well.

"Kate does not really know who her friends are, but she knows she can rely on her mother. When Kate asked her to go out to Arizona, Linda did not hesitate - she booked a flight straight away."

Linda, 56, who is divorced from Kate's father Peter, arrived at the Meadows clinic in the desert town of Wickenburg on Saturday.

She is expected to take part in three or four workshop-style therapy sessions with her daughter this week. Staff say this is the crucial part of the treatment.

Patients are encouraged to talk about any issues that have led to personal problems. Such sessions tackle the underlying reasons for drug addiction. Two or three patients are placed in groups along with the family members. It is often a very emotional experience.

According to the Meadows website, this can be "pivotal" in helping addicts re-build their lives.

The website says: "Family members and significant others in the life of the client are invited by the patient to participate in what is a life-changing experience.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how best to be supportive of your loved one and to heal the pain as a family."

Kate, who checked into the Meadows on September 29 for a £20,000 30-day programme, has lost a string of modelling contracts.

And during the month-long stay she is relying heavily on family visits to keep her spirits up.

She was reunited with daughter Lila Grace at the end of her first gruelling week after ex-lover Jefferson Hack vowed to stand by her. They celebrated Lila's third birthday together.

But one person who is notable by his absence is Kate's drug-addict lover Pete Doherty. He has been blamed by friends and family for the model's recent fall from grace.

Linda even fell out with Kate over him, but the pair made up recently - and the current crisis has made the star realise just how much she needs her mum. Life has certainly been different for Kate in the clinic. Patients have to rise at 6am and be in bed by 10pm.

TV and newspapers are banned, drugs and alcohol are out, and caffeine and sugar off limits.

But the friend said Kate is actually "enjoying" her time at the Meadows despite the strict regime.

"Kate feels a huge sense of relief, it's as if she no longer has to think for herself and she's enjoying being told what to do.

"The fact that she's just another person in there and not the supermodel Kate Moss means she's been able to be herself for the first time in years.

"Stripping away her sense of celebrity is enabling her to see what is really going on in her life."

A host of famous names have checked into the 70-bed clinic.

Previous patients include Paul Gascoigne, Michael Barrymore, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Whitney Houston and Tracy Shaw.

After her treatment, Tara said: "It was one of the hardest things that I have ever done."

Addicts are encouraged to admit the mistakes they have made and list the people they have harmed.

Meanwhile, US psycho-therapist Dr Gilda Carle, who has treated dozens of stars, said Kate will now have to change her lifestyle.

She said: "Moss has to drop the druggie boyfriend Doherty and get rid of all her old crowd."

Maybe it's on her orders...if she wants her mommy, people might soften their attitude towards her. Plus, note that she has banned the junkie boyfriend.

My mom would've read me the riot act, probably never let me forget about it but would still help me out of trouble. I mean, it's her MOTHER. And besides, she didn't kill someone. She got hooked on drugs. Parents should help you out in situations like this. You don't stop being a parent once your kids turn 18.
