Pink: 'I used to take heroin'

WILD child pop star Pink has revealed that her career saved her from a life mired in drugs.
She admitted for the first time to The Sun that as a youngster she used heroin.

Pink, 26, said: “Heroin is a horrible thing. I’ve seen first hand what it can do to people and it’s not pretty. I was never that much in to it to need treatment. But if you’re talking about drugs — you name it, I took it. I buried three friends from heroin overdoses. But, you know, onwards and upwards.”

She also talked about one of the most high-profile heroin users, Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty. Pink said: “It sounds like it’s his way to be rock and roll. That’s sad. In my experience people are searching for something else. In relationships, in drugs, with everything. Sometimes when your life is full of pain, drugs give you an escape — then you end up dead or sick. It’s not a good place to be but I do understand it. I hope he finds what he is looking for.”

Pink, who grew up as Alecia Moore in Pennsylvania, became hooked on drugs at 13 after rebelling against her divorced parents Judy and James.
She even went to the local library to check out how much she could take without killing herself.
But as her singing career kicked off she made the life-saving decision to ditch the drugs.

Pink recalled: “I just stopped one day on Thanksgiving 1995 and never touched them again. For me drugs were just a distraction on the way to my ultimate goal, which is what I’m doing today. I found my chance and I wanted to go for it and knew I was going to have to work for it. Boredom is a big cause of a lot of problems for a lot of people. I was performing so I wasn’t bored any more. I had something to do.”

Pink has a reputation for being rebellious and she is not afraid to have a go at politicians.
The track Dear Mr President, from her new album I’m Not Dead, is her personal letter to George Bush.
And new single Stupid Girl, which was released on Monday, pokes fun at bimbo-type celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan.

Pink hopes the track would make the girls reconsider their airhead lifestyle. She said: “Some of them really grind on me. I wanted to use examples to get over the general idea. I wasn’t scared Paris or Jessica or any of the other girls would sue. In my fantasy world I hope they would find the humour in the message and examine themselves and make the world a better place.

“Women have fought really long and hard for everything we have today. And this force-fed image that Paris and the rest of the girls portray is taking us back 30 years. I wish there were more examples of people being intelligent and sexy. I didn’t do it to win a popularity contest or win friends. I just thought it was something to talk about for women and for girls. So string me up and set me on fire.”

Talking to Pink in her swish hotel suite I was surprised how gentle the husky-voiced singer came across.
The spiky wild child has definitely grown up — and even gone a bit soft.
She married Carey Hart, 30, a motocross champ, in January, and has recorded a duet with her dad.
Though not a professional musician, Pink’s father used to play guitar and sing to her when she was a child.

She said: “It took a lot of persuading to get him to sing on the album. He was really nervous. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. A fulfilment of a dream for both of us. He always wanted to be a rock star. He was my first rock star. So I made it happen. I thought this was the perfect album for him.”

As part of the star’s outrageous image, she has never tried to discourage rumours she would like to bed girls as well as men.

She said: “I don’t put labels on myself, I’m just a happy girl. Carey didn’t want me because he thought I would sleep with women. I try to get him to tell me what girls he thinks are hot but he’s incapable, which I find inhuman because I find a lot of people hot. I’m the only one for that boy, which is sweet but it seems unnatural. I think Johnny Depp is No1 — always has been since I was little. I think his wife Vanessa is hot too. She’s gorgeous.”

Pink and Carey work hard to keep the passion alive in their long-distance relationship.
They first started dating four and a half years ago and even though they are now married they see each other just once a month.
But Pink revealed she has a couple of tricks to keep him happy.

With a cheeky grin she said: “One of us has always been on tour. We can meet up in random hotel rooms and . . . you know. I’m not really a phone person so it’s an email sex relationship when we are away. Some of them are X-rated, of course.”

She added: “Carey doesn’t like the whole strip club thing. But he likes pole dancing with me doing it.”

Pink is expecting a string of hotel quickies with her husband as she embarks on a relentless worldwide tour promoting the new album. But she said: “I’ll get some time off in the summer, a couple of days. We like to take our dogs and go camping and dirt-bike riding.

“I don’t take any make-up. I leave the hairbrush and just take some clothes and underwear and go.”

Pink is enjoying travelling and has found Europe a refreshing change from the US.

She said: “Everyone I’ve met is so nice and really cool. I would definitely move to Europe. I love France — Paris and the South of France. There’s not a lot of art or culture or individuality in Hollywood.” Stupid Girls is riding high in the Top Ten and it is clear she has replaced the buzz she once got from drugs with performing on stage.

Pink, who played an amazing secret gig in London on Wednesday night, said: “I don’t care about chart position. All I’m interested in is the performing. I try to do a lot of different things with my album. I scream, cry, shout, dance — and I like to inspire people to do the same.”
