Laura Bush bio: fertility drugs, smoking...
Quote:
March 22, 2006 -- FIRST Lady Laura Bush gave birth to twin daughters Jenna and Barbara only after taking powerful fertility drugs, according to a major new book.
In "Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady" (Random House), best-selling author Ronald Kessler reports that, after trying for more than three years to have children after she married George W. Bush, Laura took clomiphene citrate, which induces ovulation and helps increase egg production and often leads to multiple births.
When that didn't work after a few months, Laura was given a shot of gonadotropin to adjust her hormones to help her conceive.
"Her temperature went up on a Saturday, indicating she was ovulating," Laura's close friend Nancy Weiss told Kessler. "On Monday, she had the shot. Within a few days, they believed she was pregnant. When Laura took the second medication, it worked immediately. So the twins were miracle girls. She obviously was not able to carry children without the hormone adjustment."
Kessler also writes that Laura occasionally sneaks a cigarette with friends. "In 1994 and 1995, she totally quit a lifelong smoking habit," he writes. "When asked by the media, she would honestly say that it was 'difficult' to quit. But after 1995, Laura went back to bumming cigarettes from friends, though never in front of George or her staff."
Not content with revealing Laura's secrets, Kessler also writes about Laura's little-discussed White House influence.
"The Bush Administration asks for her opinion and for any suggestions she might have on possible appointments and on issues affecting a range of agencies dealing with subjects which she has committed herself to promoting or in which she has a strong interest," he claims.
"They include such areas as education, the arts, women's rights, juveniles with social problems, AIDS, libraries, and the humanities. Because of her, budgets for some agencies have been increased or not cut. In one case, a well-connected top political appointee who had engaged in deceit never took his post because of her take on the issue."
Kessler's tome is out April 4. Back in 2002, Page Six reported that Kessler fingered former FBI official W. Mark Felt as "Deep Throat" in his "The Bureau: the Secret History of the FBI." The former Washington Post reporter has also written about President Bush (the current one) and the CIA.

Hmm...is old Incurious George shooting blanks? Could that explain his pathetic need to appear 'manly'? Hilarious...

I didn't like it when Hillary became "co-president" during the Clinton
years and I don't like this either. The first lady is not elected and
is not accountable to the public. That is true whether you admire
her or not.

You said it, ourman. She is not an elected official and therefore should play no role in the decision-making processes of government.

Re: Laura Bush bio: fertility drugs, smoking...
if george were shooting blanks, taking clomid wouldn't have helped...hello...that's a med that a *woman* takes to increase her egg production/maturity.
c'mon. i doubt that she plays any major role in decision-making for the admin. she has her niche programs, like literacy advocacy, but that hardly impacts the nation in such a way that she could possibly do irreperable harm. it isn't like she's sitting with the four-star generals calling shots for finding insurgents. or going before congress after being given carte blanche by her husband to overhaul the entire private medical system in favor of socialized. please insert eyeroll here. i think that mrs. bush is remarkably low-key. i hardly ever see her in the media.

Sorry, I'm not up on the world of fertility drugs. Glad to hear old Incurious George is firing full steam ahead.

REally? It seems like every other week her STepford wife smug mug is plastered in the paper or on TV while she sits surrounded by 'unfortunates' and blathers on about helping them. Which will never happen, of course, because Bushies don't like poor people.

Exactly Iheartparis! Besides, as much as I'm not a fan of the Bushes I still don't see what the shame/shock it is that these people had to use fertility drugs. I'm glad there is such an option around. Lack of fertility doesn't equal moral failing or make you a bad person. Not being able to have a child when you so desperately want one isn't something I'd wish on anyone.

Re: Laura Bush bio: fertility drugs, smoking...
I'm not shocked or feel she should be ashamed. I was just making an easy goal, ie. Georgie Porgie is shooting blanks, thus he needs 'prove' he is a man. Childish? Sure. But meant with levity.

This whole fertility drugs thing is just a hot button issue for me. I should have realized you were just trying to continue on with the Bush bashing. Let the bashing continue!!!!!!
Can you imagine The Chimpenfurher having to submit to fertility tests, jacking off into a jar? LMAO @ that image.

"So the twins were miracle girls." My definition of miracle is somewhat different.

I think it's cute that Laura turned to medical science to help get pregnant despite God's obvious plan, and yet she's just so against using medical science to end a pregnancy...
Hypocrisy, thy name is Bush.

And what about Shrub's stand on stem cell research? I guess science is ok to use when it is something he wants.

Even though Laura was taking a fertility drug, SPERM was of course still needed to conceive the twins! So NO George is obviously not "shooting blanks". Besides, one of the twins, (Barbara?) looks just like him.

Heaven forbid people with their shitloads of money and resources give a home to an unwanted baby they would not want a woman to have aborted!
