JENNIFER ANISTON has hit out at reality TV for breeding a culture unnaturally obsessed with the lives of the rich and famous.
The actress, whose own private life has been under intense public scrutiny since her high-profile split from husband BRAD PITT last year (05), insists the fascination with celebrity gossip is sickening. And she is so fed up with the situation, she refuses to watch TV anymore.
The former FRIENDS star says, "What happened to a great half-hour sitcom? It's all DANCING WITH THE STARS! KNITTING WITH THE STARS, BUILDING A HOME WITH THE STARS, LIVING IN THE HOMES OF STARS!
"And then the ripping people to shreds. Humiliation. Degradation. What is going on? There's so much instant gratification, and we want it. It's just bizarre.
"I don't watch TV anymore. Nothing. I have no interest in that idol s**t. Unfortunately the world is in such a state with this (Iraq) war and everything else that it's easier to look at the triteness of a celebrity break-ups. It's like, 'Ahh, relief.'
"It's an escape, rather like a daytime soap opera. There's nothing left to talk about and I'm just sick of everything about myself."

I agree with her but isn't she part of the problem? Going on Oprah and sitting for interviews with all sorts of magazines? That certainly contributes to the celeb-obsessed culture we're living in.

I don't know what the big deal is. I think there is far too much reality TV too! Why can't she say that if she's asked her opinion about?
Plus if those few sentences are put in context - they made up about 5% of a huge interview - it's hardly reflective of what she spends most of her time thinking about! Barely worth a thread.
Yawn yawn - attack me if you will

Oh, like yours? Sorry, but I hated that show. Whiny thirtysomething losers, blech.

Maybe so, but it was still massively popular. I agree with her. I do think TV is missing something like 'friends' now. There is way too much reality TV.

I loved Dancing with the Stars and I love Idol. What's wrong with having shows on TV that are relatively innocent so that the whole family can watch? If her point is simply that there is too much celeb reality TV, which fuels our desire for celeb gossip, then why not point out Anna Nicole Smith's show, or Ozzy's show, or the Newlyweds.
She always gets in little digs about the government too. That would be fine but, if you have a statement to make on something, make it. Don't hide it into a fluff peice. It seems passive aggressive to me.

I don't entirely disagree with her, but if it wasn't for all of our interest in the "stars," then where the hell would she be?
Jennifer just doesn't like reality, period. She seems to think she's the only one in the world who's had a difficult divorce, and I just refuse to feel sorry for her.

She of all people should not be speaking about instant gratification, given how large and immediately attentive an audience she wanted when puking her guts out over THE DIVORCE©.
