March 18, 2006 -- THE bad blood between Scarlett Johansson and Lindsay Lohan seems to have spilled over to Johansson's boyfriend, Josh Hartnett. He tells Jane magazine, "What scares me with pop culture is . . . looking at my younger brother and sister and their friends, seeing my little sister's friends looking, like, to Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton - I just don't think that's anything to strive for. I don't think those girls are too happy. And it's like, the culture is so focused on a more self-oriented . . . luck-based mentality. It's just like, get what's good for you. It's a herd mentality that I think is really about making money."

I think he's quite the dork--and not in the good way--but he has a point.

Ah I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Josh I have to admit. And he does have a good point but I dont think that young girls have changed that much over the years, its more whether or not that mentality changes when they get older.

^^ Would you prefer that he used the words "as if" instead? His voice gives me a slight case of the creeps because it's like Buffalo Bill's voice in Silence of the Lambs.

Isn't he about money? He certainly does not think he is expanding the world of dramatic arts with his performances.

Just thot it made him sound sort of teenage Valley-girlish. How I imagine Paris might speak....

What's scary is little girls looking up to Paris Hilton. I thought the Spice Girl phenomena was bad enough.

I suspect in a previous generation, an editor would have just
removed the superfluous words like "like," "er" and "y'know," so that
the subject didn't seem like an idiot when read. Granted, we all use
filler words in conversation, but it's one thing to hear them,
and another to read them.
