Default Matt Stone and Trey Parker of Southpark Fight Back

Tom Cruise has a new “Mission” coming out soon, but right now, he's also get a new controversy on his hands.

The question at hand is, did Tom threaten to derail his own movie in order to have a Scientology spoof taken off the air?

Sparking the controversy — an old episode of the Comedy Central cartoon “South Park,” which pokes fun at Scientology and targets Cruise.

It's no secret that Tom has long been Scientology's most outspoken member.

“What Scientology is, is it addresses man as a spiritual being,” Cruise said.

The episode first aired in November and was scheduled to re-air on Wednesday night, March 15. But Comedy Central (which is owned by Viacom), abruptly pulled a repeat of the episode.

    But why?

Reportedly, because Tom objected, threatening not to promote the Paramount film “Mission: Impossible III” if the episode wasn't pulled.

The connection between the two? Paramount is owned by Viacom.

However, a spokesperson for Cruise denies that Tom made the threat saying, “He never said nay such thing about ‘Mission: Impossible III.’”

In true “South Park” form, show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker issued the following statement:

“So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies.”

Celebrity marketing expert Ryan Shinman said to chalk up a victory for the power of celebrity, but it may not have the desired effect.

“I think it's going to backfire a little bit because at the end of the day, how many people truly watch 'South Park' on a Wednesday at 10 p.m.? Now, I think the audience is going to grow even more to see what these guys are doing next,” Shinman explained.

But Tom doesn't seem to be letting the controversy bother him. He and pregnant wife Katie Holmes (who is due next month) enjoyed themselves, hugging and kissing, as they watched the USA take on Mexico in the World Baseball Classic in Southern California.

    The Scoop
Note that they're calling her his wife, so maybe those rumors about the wedding/blessing/whatever on the Scientology boat were true. I'm guessing those stories were leaked by Tomkat, probably to appease her parents.

PRN's post was excellent. Nothing like eyewitness accounts to un-spin the spin.

**'edit: What I'm really hoping will happen is that the lovely South Park boys will use this incident for further mocking and scorn of Tom Cruise/Scientology. How about an episode about a famous scientologist who contracts a simpleton starlet to 'have' his baby and then it is revealed that she's been lugging a pillow around the whole time...and been brainwashed to boot? Hmmmm...perhaps that story line is a little bit too familiar.

Default Matt and Trey Fight Back!

Statement from the makers of South Park regarding the station's decision to pull the Scientology episode, apparently after threats from Tom Cruise:

"So, Scientology, you have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun," the pair wrote.

"Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"

Glad to hear the episode is only temporarily pulled off (so they say?).
Hope they'll make many more new episodes mocking Tom Thumb and Scientology.

That's where I got to watch it cuz I missed it when they played on Comedy Central. Grrr. Well, I woulda still preferred to have seen it on TV but the one above is without commercials so it's still good.

Those boys are spot on! No wonder Tom doesnt' want it played again. How stupid is he to believe all the Scientology crap. It makes me laugh at how so many people can be brainwashed into believing and obvious fake 'religion'. If L. Ron Hubbard actually said "..the best way to make money is to start a religion" how can people believe in him? and space ships that look like 737's with jet engines? come on. how stupid do you have to be?

This was posted already but still funny as hell. THe picture of 'Captain Tom Thumb' is hilarious. This is a man with real issues. It reminds me of Patton.

I watched the re-aired episode on Wednesday or something. Am I missing something here?

He made his mother and sisters convert to Scientology, so they're as brainwashed as he is. I wonder if he is the highest operating thetan in the family and, if so, is he allowed to talk to them?
