Do not hug James Earl Jones
James Earl Jones may look like a teddy bear, but don't try to hug him.
A source spotted the man behind Darth Vader's voice being accosted by an overly friendly fan: "The woman was lunging for him with her arms outstretched. [Jones], meanwhile, was backing away, panicky, and he told her, 'I don't hug.' So the woman said, 'Oh, come on.' And he told her, 'No. My wife wouldn't like it. But I'll autograph something.
Jones reportedly began to politely ask the woman questions. "'Are you from the South?' So she says, 'No, I'm from Jamaica.' And Jones says, 'Now, Southern women like to hug, but I didn't know Jamaican women like to hug, too. I'm from Mississippi, but my wife is from Wyoming. So I can't hug you.
Jones is lending his distinguished voice to the sci-fi animated flick '2004: A Light Knight's Odyssey.' Other celebs lending their vocal talents are John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson and Christian Slater.

I'm lost.
BTW isn't he a very cute cuddly looking man , I'd never have guessed he had the rasping Darth Vadar voice. Ooh imagine sharing a bed with him and he started snoring or wheezing - I'd freak out!

Re: Do not hug James Earl Jones
Yeah, down here in the South, we tend to be more affectionate and tend to hug more. I think James Earl Jones was saying that as his wife is from Wyoming (which is waay up North and so hug-inclined) she would not understand why he was hugging some strange person. Actually, I can quite understand why James Earl Jones wouldn't want to be embraced by someone he didn't even know. It would creep me out, too.

Re: Do not hug James Earl Jones
I met James Earl Jones at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) 2 or 3 yrs ago. He gave me an autograph. We were both in the baggage area waiting for our suitcases. He was very nice and friendly---but then again, I didn't try to hug him...lol

Re: Do not hug James Earl Jones
He was a speaker at the university here a year or so ago, and our limousine service (my employer has SEVERAL different businesses...) and the limo driver had to get another car from a local dealership because #1 he is a large man and had trouble getting in and out of our limo and #2 he didn't want the 'hooplah' surrounding him arriving in a limo. They ended up getting a Cadi, I think...driver said he was most gracious and sent us autographed photos...
Here in the south, we are very affectionate, but I don't go around just hugging people...well, not strangers....I do hug family members and members of family members (in laws) and friends on a regular basis....people I haven't seen in a while, but I do not hug co workers, people at the Wal Mart, tellers at the bank.... Just being silly....

Re: Do not hug James Earl Jones
Yeah, I'm from NC and I'm all about huggin' folk! But it's only folk I know, tho. Cuz it's rude to invade some stranger's personal space. At least, that's how I was raised...

Re: Do not hug James Earl Jones
I guess this fan figures since she's seen in movies and on TV, she knows him, and it's ok to grab him, but gee, she's mistaken. I agree that James Earl handled the situation very well.
