Default Nick Lachey dumped by TV network

Singer NICK LACHEY's dreams of TV stardom have been dashed by after a US network decided not to pick up his new show.

Lachey was working on a TV pilot about a newlywed professional baseball player for the US WB network.
The network recently merged with another network, causing fewer potential new series to be given the green light.

A source says, "There are only so many openings on the new network. Nick's show didn't make the cut."

A source close to Lachey confirms plans for the show have been cancelled saying, "The network loves Nick - they just weren't into the baseball show. "They're putting together another project for him."

    Lachey, Elliott in pilot deals

By Nellie Andreeva Thu Mar 9, 2:18 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Tabloid staple Nick Lachey (MTV's "Newlyweds") is in negotiations to star in the new CW network's first comedy pilot, "She Said, He Said," which explores how men and women perceive situations differently.

Lachey's casting stems from a talent deal he signed with the WB in September. The WB and UPN will soon close down, and re-emerge in the fall as the CW network.

    In other pilot news:

    - CBS has picked up a comedy pilot starring Chris Elliott. The semi-autobiographical "You've Reached the Elliotts" revolves around a man who tries to balance his modest showbiz career and his home life.

    - John Terry has joined ABC's murder-mystery "Secrets of a Small Town" as an affluent and respected civic leader. He currently has a recurring role on ABC's "Lost."
    - Erin Daniels has landed the title role in Fox's comedy "Julie Reno, Bounty Hunter," playing a down-on-her-luck single mother who tracks down bail-jumpers. Daniels recently had a role on Showtime's "The L Word."
    - Tony Curran and William Allen Young have joined ABC's drama "Enemies," which centers on two childhood best friends who are now on opposite sides of the law. Curran, recently seen in "Underworld: Evolution," will play a gangster.
    - Jenica Bergere will co-star in Fox's comedy pilot "Union Jackass," about an opinionated, outspoken British Archie Bunker-type (Al Murray) who is forced to live in Santa Monica to be near his young son. Bergere ("Girls Behaving Badly") will play his ex-wife.
    - Ashley Scott ("Into the Blue") has come on board CBS' drama "Jericho," which chronicles the chaos that ensues in a small town isolated from the rest of the world after a nuclear disaster.
    - Richard Coyle has been added to CBS' drama "Ultra," based on the comic book series about a single city-girl superhero. Coyle (BBC's "Coupling") will play the role of Cryptic Man.
    - Julius Carry has joined Fox's comedy "The 12th Man," inspired by former NBA player Paul Shirley's life as a benchwarmer. Carry will play the team's coach.
    - and Pascale Hutton has been added to another Fox comedy, "The Singles Table," centering on five strangers -- one of them, a single doctor, played by Hutton -- who bond when they must sit together at a wedding.

Barbara the way US television works is that in January is the beginning of what they call "pilot season" Networks look at different proposals and scripts for new television series for their network and pick a handful that look promising. Some are built around stars like Nick but most are then cast with a variety of actors. Sometime in March and April the pilots are filmed and sent off to the respective networks. The programming people at the networks look at all the pilots they've ordered and make a decision on which ones will be turned into television shows for the fall. In late May the 'advertising upfronts' are held. It's basically a weeklong press conference where all of the networks reveal what the new shows premiering will be and they show the pilots to some of the critics and the people who purchase advertising for big companies. All the networks give the big push to say how great, wonderful, fresh and exciting these new shows are. Usually the television schedule is pretty much set in stone by that point and very few changes are made. Between January and May though anything can and will happen to affect which pilots make the grade and are added to the schedule.

It's just the luck of the draw for Nick, a large number of pilots fall by the wayside between January and May. Bad luck for him about the merger because the UPN/WB merger created almost no slots for new shows. The show's premise sounded like it kind of sucked anyway.

Do you remember his show on Fox many years ago where he was a middle aged paperboy? That show was so stupid but he was great in it!

I'm so glad you brought that up! What a great show that was! It's a shame not everyone 'gets' his brand of humor. He was also super funny/wierd on Letterman many years ago. He totally gets into his characters.

What's with Nick Lachey and his tv ventures? Sure, be an actor on charmed every now and then or whatever the hell but his stint on ESPN College Gameday was horrid, he's no sportscaster. And isn't it enough we have to watch his own reality show on mtv soon as he tries yet again release a successful solo album? Enough already Nick. You are going to make America sick of you. Just sit back and roll with the sympathy card for awhile. The tabloids are making you a star all over again.
