Christopher Reeve's Widow Dies at age 44

Reeve died late Monday of lung cancer, said Kathy Lewis, President and CEO of the foundation.

"On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us," Lewis said in a statement.

My thoughts exactly...that was so quick.

So sad too that I read she wasn't a smoker but still got lung cancer. Must have been extremely advanced by the time they found it. Sometimes when there is no smoking history doctors miss the diagnosis.

Tragic. I have not known of very many cases of lung cancer that do live very long after diagnosis. My uncle lived less than a year after his diagnosis. If I am not mistaken, it is the type of cancer that usually affects the lungs-it spreads very quickly.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her family...

This is the most heartbreaking news ive heard in a long time.
Talk about bad luck in life... i cant believe this.

So incredibly sad. She was such a rock over the years for her husband. Even though her devotion and love for him was such an inspiration, I couldn't help thinking after he died that she could now have a chance to do some things that she had not had a chance to do - ie. travel, perhaps further pursue her career. She had spent so many years caring for her husband (and I know this was her choice - I'm sure she wouldn't have had it any other way) But still, after her grief gradually lessened, she could do some of the activities she had curtailed over the years. Then to be struck with cancer!! Their poor son - what an awesome mom and woman she was - my heart goes out to him and to their family. Such a tragedy....

I'm floored!

Unfortunately, I've lost two friends within 13 months to lung cancer, both of whom died within 6 months after diagnosis. But they were smokers. It must really, really suck to have lived a good and healthy life, the way Dana had, and still be stricken with an agressive form of this rotten disease.

Poor Will. He was 3 in 1995 when Chris had his horrible accident, so he'll be 14 this year! I hope and am somehow sure, his older half siblings from Chris' first marriage will look out for their little brother.

I think Robin Williams and his family will put in their fair share, too, as they were extremely close to Chris and his family.

It seemed nothing could stop Dana, who - last year - still took part in several events of their foundation. She lost her mother very shortly after Chris died, and now she's gone too. Some people have such a big cross to bear.

This is just heartbreaking. Their son Will is 13 years old. Christopher Reeve died in October of 2004, then last August Dana announced she had cancer, and dies 7 months later. Dana was only 44. Heartbreaking......I don't know what to say, their poor son, it must be devestating for Will.
