Paris auctions off her wedding ice
Quote:
BANG) - Paris Hilton has reportedly auctioned off her US$4.7million engagement ring from ex-fiancé Paris Latsis.
The hotel heiress sold the stunning diamond band to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina, according to a report in Britain's Daily Star newspaper.
The winning bidder is said to have bought the ring for less than half of what Latsis paid.
Hilton called time on her romance with the shipping heir earlier this month claiming she wasn't ready for marriage.
The 24-year-old said: "I'm sad to announce that I've called off my engagement. Over the last couple of months I've realised that this is the right decision for me."
The blonde socialite - who got engaged to Latsis just five months ago after a whirlwind courtship - added: "I feel I'm just not ready for marriage. I have seen the break ups between people who love each other and rush into getting married too quickly - and I do not want to make that mistake."

She should have returned the ring no matter who called the engagement off. It's not like they had been engaged for years.
Not surprised she never donated to Katrina. Lots of celebs say and/or pledge donations but never follow through. And a lot of them charge huge amounts for appearing at charity functions, which is the height of hypocrisy to me.
I can understand getting your basic expenses covered, although if I were as rich as a lot of these people I'd waive even that for charity, but to be PAID and get the glowing PR?

It was reported that Paris male told her she could keep the ring, as she earnt it. Apparently he was referencing her earning it the traditional way, and she didn't realise it was a slur.

The proper protocol is to return the ring. Which is why Paris isn't.

I read that Paris homme refused to take back the ring. He said she "deserved" it.

You're right; if the woman breaks off the engagement, she gives back the ring. If the man breaks it off, she keeps it.

Although she CLAIMS she was too young to get married and called it off, I would say, that by keeping the ring, says it all. She was pissed HE called it off, and thats why she kept the ring.

When I heard he said this I thought if he was being serious then he sure was a huge sucker! And if it was a slam then he's obviously got more money than I can imagine cause that's one expensive put down! Even as a hooker on the market would Paris really be worth millions? Doubtful.
To her credit, at least she's doing something with it, even if it was somebody else's idea and she probably mainly cares about the resulting publicity. It sure beats Brit's nasty flip flops and sweat stained bra!
