Rolling Stones Officially Ancient!

Rolling Stones' heart safety machine
The Rolling Stones reportedly keep a special heart machine backstage in case one of them collapses. Organisers of their current tour have allegedly brought in a defibrillator in case one of the ageing rockers - who are all in their late 50s and early 60s - has a heart attack while performing. The machine shocks the heart back into a normal rhythm, so a doctor would be able to revive the stars on the spot instead of waiting for emergency services.
A source is quoted in America's Globe magazine as saying: "With all four band members now veterans, their managers are not taking any chances." However a spokesman told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "I've never seen a defibrillator backstage."
Last month the legendary band revealed they want to play a special concert in Iraq for British and American soldiers. Frontman Mick Jagger says the rockers would be prepared to perform in the war ravaged country to raise the troops' morale but only if they are asked by military chiefs or the US or UK government. He said: "The boys are doing a very professional and a very tough job over there and they aren't getting a lot of fun. If we were asked to go it would be a very, very serious consideration."

What next? Extra emergency wheelchairs, walkers and Geritol with them on tour? Will their next tour be sponsered by Metamucil?

Not only are they old, most of them lived rather compromising lifestyles. Smoke much? Drug much? And Keith Richards has been dead for years, I think he is just a zombie that they reanamate for tours.

Well I gotta admit, I appulaud them for still performing for their fans. They're pretty dedicated to perform and pull off a show. For that I respect them.
Having said that however, they need to start putting that tour money into some funeral plans, just in case.

I don't know why age is a big reason to mock someone. All the old blues guys play till they drop. Why shouldn't old rockers? Good for them that they keep going. I just saw McCartney's show in NYC btw and he rocked. He worked harder and kept going longer than any of the young acts I've seen lately.

Maybe it's because these guys actually have looked like corpses for at least the last twenty years.
I read a book back in the 80's that swears they used to have to take Keith to a clinic in Switzerland before each tour and have him instantly detoxed by changing out all of his blood with fresh clean non-druggy blood. Very odd.

I've never understood the fascination with Mick and his haggard little pals. But as they grow older (and remain, for lack of a better term, alive) I've grown steadily more amused and bemused by their antics.
Their press conferences are weird pieces of contradiction drama where you see some old zombies dressed and (trying to) acting like their grandchildren. It's mindblowing how they can be so unaware of their current state

Amen to Lennonfan. The Rolling Stones consider themselves journeyman musicians, with their foundation rooted in the blues. Performers like Muddy Waters, BB King, Buddy Guy (still touring at almost 70) are their inspiration. They've said that they will tour until they die, because that's what they do. They may look old, but they still put on a fantastic show. If you haven't seen them live, you should! Last tour, we were lucky enough to get tickets to their club show in LA (only about 1,500 seats). I sat next to Andy Garcia. We saw Slash, Tom Petty, Johnny Depp, Angelica Houston, Tom Waites, Eddie Murphy, Patti Hansen, Peter Boyle -- the list goes on and on. We'll see them in two weeks at the Hollywood Bowl. Seriously, their live show is amazing. Also, we recently saw BB King -- he's 80 -- and Etta James (she's 70, I think). These performers are the foundation of today's music, and you should see them while you can.
Also, the defibrillator story? They've said that it's not true. Although they do travel with a masseuse .

I think the Stones have officially been old fogies since about 1980. I mean, have they really put out anything good since the 70s? Yeah, I know people try to say they have but c'mon, they're just fooling themselves.
