Priscilla Presley says she is offended by suggestions there is something wacky about her family.
Tabloid magazines this week labelled as "kooky kabuki" her daughter Lisa Marie's marriage to musician Michael Lockwood in Japan, with both wearing kimonos.
"It does offend me," Presley told AAP in Sydney.
It was not wacky in any sense of the word because you appreciate a culture and you appreciate tradition, that is wacky for somebody to say that."
Lisa Marie and Lockwood exchanged vows in a traditional Japanese ceremony on January 22, both wearing traditional Japanese costumes.
It was a fourth marriage for Lisa Marie who has previously been married to Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough, the father of her two children.
Priscilla Presley walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away.
"The wackyness isn't on our end," said Presley.
"I don't think we have ever been known to be wacky.
"Maybe having lived our whole lives in front of everyone, things might look that way but this was so well thought out and she is very happy."
Presley described Lisa Marie's wedding as "beautiful".
"The wedding was everything she wanted and the mood was so tranquil and very traditional in dress," she said.
Priscilla Presley arrived in Australia on Saturday for the worldwide launch of her bed linen range with Australian fashion designer Bruno Schiavi, titled The Priscilla Presley Collection.
The 60-year-old was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa Marie with Presley and Navarone Garibaldi with partner Marco Garibaldi.
She acknowledged that Elvis, who died of a heart attack in 1977, was always going to be a big part of her life.
"It was such an impactful era that I think everyone feels they own a little bit of Elvis," she said after the launch at Sydney's inner city Myer department store.
"As far as separating myself, I can't really deny that was history and I was very much a part of history in that sense.
"It was a great time, a great era and a great loss."

Usually a traditional wedding is YOUR tradition, not a culture entirely foreign to you. That's my opinion anyway. Her daughter married Michael Jackson for God's sake.

At least this time around Lisa Marie married her own kind: a white guy with no talent. What the hell was that whole Michael Jackson marriage about? Now that was wacky!

She's probably embarrassed by her daughter! In that I do sympathize with Priscilla. After every marriage she's probably thinking "Please Lisa, let this be it". Poor woman doesn't know what to say anymore! She has to sound supportive when deep inside you know she's fed up as hell. How many damn weddings is poor Elvis gonna have to pay for from the grave? I just keep 'hoping' one of these times, Lisa will marry in Vegas and have an Elvis impersonator present that way Priscilla won't have to walk her daughter down the aisle again. Watch that one be the marriage that lasts...lol

It won't be long now before Elvis will be considered the "normal" one in the Presley family!
I still have to shake my head when Ms. Beaulieu refers to herself as a "Presley".

I'm glad she's defending her daughter and all...
But the Presley family is still wacky. Lisa Marie was the one to discover her Dad dead...that would mess with your head, no doubt about it. Especially since she was so young...not to mention the fact that she's been living under a microscope her entire life.

Another perfect example of how the religion of Tom Cruise has screwed up other famous people.

Nope, she didn't. His then girlfriend Ginger Alden discovered him on the bathroom floor. She thought he was unconscious and phoned downstairs where some of Elvis' little helpers were making last preparations for Elvis' tour that would begin that day. Al Strada went upstairs and took one look, phoned down to Joe Esposito who joined him and Ginger in Elvis' bathroom. Although rigor mortis had already set in, they did call an ambulance and tried to resuscitate anyway, knowing that they were too late.
Elvis was rushed to Baptist Memorial and given extensive resuscitation, but his regular nurse Mrs. Cook came in and immediately saw he'd been dead for quite a while. Still the hospital staff felt it was their duty to try everything.
Lisa "only" witnessed the scene from the hallway and was alarmed when her granddad, Vernon, almost collapsed as well in Elvis' bathroom, upon viewing his son's body. She was quickly rushed out of there by assistants. She then proceeded to call Elvis' former girlfriend, Linda Thompson, to tell her that something was terribly wrong with her daddy and that she thought he was dead. She had some girlfriends over on her last days of her vacation with Elvis, and, oddly enough, spent the rest of the afternoon playing with her friends in the garden of Graceland.......

However it played out, I'm sure it was traumatic to her. When you loose someone you love (especially a parent) it takes a long time to get over. She has had to deal with the death of her father, the rumors surrounding it and the simple fact of who her father is (was). I'm quite sure it has affected her mental health from time to time.
But, yes, I think she is strange. Or rather she makes some strange decisions-namely Michael Jackson-
Not sure about the rest of the family, but Lisa Marie and Priscilla are wacky-

The one who lost her dad was standing next to him during a freak accident when a contraption collapsed and a bolt came loose and was more or less catapulted into the major artery in his neck and he bled to death right in front of her eyes. He was a local celeb, so she was in the public eye, too and exactly as old as Lisa. Despite the terribly traumatic death of her father, she did not turn into an "interesting" nutcase like Presley, but is a well adjusted mother of four, still in her first marriage.
I think Lisa's biggest problem is that she really isn't that smart (9th grade drop-out) and has - later - chosen a secluded life in a cult (she's been involved with Scientology since she was about 17 when she went there to kick her drug habit, and stayed). Sure she lives on her own estate etc. but she's deeply, deeply under the influence. I have yet to hear an original view or thought from her. Her memories of her father are largely spoonfed to her by her psycho mom (who has single handedly re-written Elvis' history as it is now sold to scores of new fans). She only lived at Graceland for close to 4 years, during which Elvis was mostly away on tour or filming in Hollywood. After that, she mostly only saw him during vacations or when he had her over on his tours. He night and day rhythm were reversed, so when she was staying with him, she still didn't see much of him.
Now somebody planted a seed in her mushbrain that she should be a singer, convincing her that she has the talent for it. Well, she doesn't. My dog sings a better tune.
She looks like they've locked her up in a room with mirrored walls, with a karaoke set and every Elvis concert movie and TV appearance on DVD and told her to study hard. She got some of the moves and stares down, but that's about it.
She belongs only one category above Paris Hilton. Like Hilton she has too much money and status and no talent. But unlike Hilton at least Presley is involved with charity like Presley Place - to help homeless families back on their feet, but that's about it.
