To recap: Late in the day last Tuesday, Life & Style announced the imminent breakup of TomKat. Later that afternoon, Star rushed out a report calling bullshit on Life & Style. The next morning — a week ago today — Us Weekly further dismissed Life & Style’s breakup claim by not even deigning to address it. It seemed almost like an alliance between Star and Us Weekly against Life & Style. Until Star put out a story later last Wednesday directly contradicting Us Weekly. And there, eyeball to eyeball and with fingers on triggers, it seemed détente was reached; there’s been no inter-weekly skirmishing since, and peace has reigned in celebmagland.

Until today, when Life & Style’s new issue defiantly sticks with its TomKat breakup claim, thereby threatening the magopolitical stability we’ve come to enjoy over these last six days. How will things now play out? Will there be counterattacks and shifting alliances? We have no idea, but we think this is how World War I started.

Life & Style Round 2: Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Secrets Revealed

Life & Style magazine caused quite a stir with last week's blockbuster cover story that claimed Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were basically finished but were planning on keeping up appearances until the baby was born.
That brought swift denials from Camp TomKat and of course, threats of a lawsuit.

A Life & Style spokesman told The National Ledger that the weekly stands behind their story "100 percent." And now L&S is set to publish round 2 in this week's edition.

The weekly presents a very detailed story again in this week's Friday edition that will reveal the secrets of the split.

A few highlights from this week's cover story:

--It's all an act!

When the photographers stopped shooting, TomKat stopped smiling and they even reportedly backed out of buying a house in Ohio

--Yes, it’s over

“One thing Katie hates about Tom,” says an insider, “is that his image means so much to him. Katie knows their relationship isn’t going to work, and she doesn¹t like being part of a huge PR campaign.”

And her family isn’t going along with the charade. After the Life & Style story broke, an insider from Katie’s hometown of Toledo, Ohio, spoke to her dad, Martin Holmes. When asked if he wanted Tom and his daughter to reconcile, the insider says Martin blurted, “I hope not!” He told the insider that he intends to make sure Katie and her baby are financially set for life and that Katie will have custody of the child. “Right now,” Martin added, “all I want is for my little girl to be happy, and she isn’t.”

When a Toledo, Ohio, resident asked Martin Holmes if there was any hope of a reconciliation between his daughter and Tom, he replied, “I hope not.”

Katie and Tom made an appearance in Australia soon after the story broke and smiled for the cameras. It will be interesting to see how strong the denials will be this week after this story hits.

Or if they will make another smiling hand-holding appearance.

I know this is a tabloid so maybe they are making it all up, but they are just saying what the rest of us are thinking. TomKat is a sham relationship contrived for publicity. It just goes to show what shitty actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are, if they think that over-the-top, couch jumping, smiling ALL the damn time is convincing any of us that this relationship is real. If they had kept it low-key, I'd be more inclined to believe it. But they're trying to create this real life fairy tale (proposing on top of the Eifel Tower ) and the public just isn't buying it.

Katie has probably signed some silly agreement that ties her in with Tom for a number of years etc. Much like the speculation about Nicole. I feel for Katie. She has got herself into something she probably cannot get out of now.

I read the Life and Style cover story last week, and actually it made a lot of sense. I know Life and Style is a fluffy magazine, but the article was actually presented very logically. I think the story is true.

I am certain Nicole didn't have to sign a whacko contract. I know she was made to sign one about the "10 year mark".. but I doubt there was one that tied her to him for a certain about of years.

What stands out to me is the fact that they aren't married yet.

Obviously, they are pro-marriage people. There was a proposal, an engagement, all that stuff, so there is no ambivalence about the institution of marriage. They have proclaimed their commitment to each other as loudly and as frequently as the opportunity was given, so fear of commitment doesn't seem to be an obstacle. They don't have to save up $$$ for a nice ceremony. They're both of age. Nobody's in college or deployed in Iraq. They can choose a wedding location from the entire planet. He's amazing, she's incredible. There is a "baby" on the way. They're in love , they're commited , and they have every reason in the world to be married NOW.

So WHAT is the hold up here, folks? WHAT could it be?
