Default Elton John offers Madonna marriage counselling

TROUBLED Madonna and Guy Ritchie are being offered marriage counselling by Sir Elton John, his lover David Furnish has revealed.

Pop legend Elton fears they may break up unless they accept each other's hectic work schedules - despite claims that Madge's career is driving them apart.

David, 43, said: "Elton and I have spoken to Madonna plenty of times lately. She and Guy are close friends of ours. They both need to concentrate on their careers if they want their relationship to work. Elton and I completely understand.

"But if they neglect that, their relationship will inevitably disintegrate. They will be fine if they don't neglect what they love to do. If that means they can't see each other, that's the way it has to be."

The Canadian film producer said work had kept him away from Elton, 58, whom he wed in a gay ceremony in December.

David, also a director at the Elton John Aids Foundation, said: "We know what it's like to be under so much pressure.

"We had our lovely wedding and honeymoon, but I haven't seen Elton for the past two weeks because I've been busy with the Aids charity and my own projects. I don't think we'll have any quality time together until March. It's hard not being able to see each other because of work."

Two weeks ago the Daily Mirror told how friends feared Madge's close working relationship with her handsome producer Stuart Price, 28, had put her marriage in peril. Her spokeswoman later denied the claims.

Her husband, 37, failed to accompany her to last week's Grammys in New York, sparking fresh speculation.

The pop queen, 47, dragged him to Wednesday night's Brits in a show of unity but both appeared uncomfortable. Guy looked sullen as Madge - named top international female at the event in London's Earls Court - flashed a forced grin.

David, pictured at the showpiece with Kelly Osbourne, went on: "Couples have to compromise. That's what Guy and Madonna have to remember and they'll make it. It's tough for them as they both value their careers, the same as Elton and I, and I respect them for that. But we're there for Madonna as friends. I absolutely admire her. We both do."

Elton's support comes despite his outburst at the 2004 Q Awards, when he blasted her for allegedly miming.
Sneering at her nomination for a gong, he ranted: "Madonna up for Best Live Act? F*** off. Since when has lip-synching been live?

"I think everyone who lip-synchs in public when people are paying £75 for a ticket should f*** off." He later apologised for the row, adding: "I don't want to escalate it because I like Madonna."

And David insisted they kissed and made up long ago. He explained: "Elton's a plain speaker. He said something and it was blown out of proportion. They were never enemies."

Mum-of-two Madonna married Guy in a fairytale ceremony at Skibo Castle in Dornoch, Sutherland, in December 2000. They have a son, Rocco, five. But she later admitted: "I got married for all the wrong reasons. My husband did not turn out to be everything I'd imagined him to be."

ELTON yesterday won an undisclosed libel payout and an apology from the Sunday Times over claims he was rude to guests at his Aids charity ball last summer. He will donate the cash to the charity.

Hmmm...since her camp is denying this like mad, it seems like the 'fued' isn't as over as they say it is. Why else would David basically come out and confirm that there are marriage troubles? Nice, catty, back handed move. I applaud his duplicity.

That's some weird advice. Of course you have to go on doing what you love to do, but I don't see how not seeing each other makes a relationship work... there is no relationship left!
    Nope.

Elton and David have been married, what, 5 minutes and they're handing out marriage advice? WTF! I'd think it should be Madge telling them that it's all a bed of roses now, but wait awhile.

Elton's such a prima donna and I think David is in for a very rude awakening. As we all know too well, things are always more extreme after you marry.

So he's been married for 5 minutes (that's what we decided, right?) and he admits he'll be away from the Queen until March. So how is he taking his own advice?

Oh for the love of all that is good, did I just stand up for Madonna. I need to sit down, the world must be spinning off it's axis.
