French actress and model BRIGITTE BARDOT felt plagued by fame because she was hounded everywhere she went.
The 1950s sex symbol, who shot to fame at the tender age of 18 after appearing in LE TROU NORMAND, insists being famous denied her the freedom other young people take for granted.
She says, "I had no life. I was a prisoner of myself; of my face.
"I could only go out at night - and with a veil over my face, so that I wouldn't be recognised. I could never go shopping. There was no freedom. I was 20 years old.
Bardot recalls one occasion where an emergency trip to the dentist turned into a nightmare.
"I had toothache and needed to go to the dentist. I was chased through the streets by 80 paparazzi on scooters. Do you understand? We had absolutely no idea what to do."
She apparently later dismissed all her movies except one, but she
refused to say which one -- I'm guessing it was either ...And God
Created Woman by her lover, Roger Vadim, or Contempt by Jean-Luc
Godard, which is probably the better of the two.
Of course, as we all know, complaining about fame is a wonderful
way to back into the spotlight....
