Quote:
NEW YORK - The Sundance Film Festival is too intense for Robert Redford, who says he wasn't around for all of it this year.
"To the outside world, it's a big fat market where you have people like Paris Hilton going to parties. Now, she doesn't have anything to do with anything. I think the festival is close to being out of control," the festival's creator told Newsweek.
This month, Redford can be heard providing commentary on a two-disc edition of the remastered DVD for "All the President's Men."
When asked if his "movie-star-ness" kept him from being taken seriously, he said it was difficult.
"You work hard to move away from it, and you're only partly successful. If I go up there to speak about an issue, they're playing "The Sting."

Totally agree it has gotten out of control. What the hell does Paris Hilton have to do with acting? That is one thing she CANT do.
I remember when it was low-key and that was the charm of it, now its gotten messed up.

Yeah, I agree. Hollywood just packs up and move for a week (or however long it lasts) and I don't think that's what he intended it to be.
We do get some good movies out of it on occassion, though.

Who invited Paris??? I guess she'll just show up anywhere invited or not though. Anyhoo, I think Redford could actually do something about it to make it less comercialized etc. Like stop giving away freebies to the celebs, feature more indie films sans Hollywood big stars etc etc.

Yeah, you would think he'd have more control of what goes on. Couldn't he just make a "no Paris" rule or something? I think he could put his foot down about the "gift rooms" and shit, too. Get on it, Robert.

The serious actors seem to be getting fed up with the whole Paris phenomena.

They should uninvite al teh companies that go there to had out free shit. Anyone who goes there just for the free stuff wouls stop showing up, which i woud wager would be about 2/3 of the people who go.

Redford is right on the money. What is Paris Hilton, who is a jillionaire, doing there grabbing up freebies in the first place? She got more media attention for the stuff she was taking than most of the movies in the festival got. That's just wrong.
A lot of good movies have come out of the Sundance, so I hope Redford puts his foot down and returns it to what it started out to be....a showcase for Independent Films with great actors in them.

Robert Redford never ceases to amaze me.
Sigh...
He's still interesting after "all these years." LOL
