WHY does Julia Roberts always make it onto these lists? WHYYYYYYYYY?

...Tom Hanks.
That's the word from a new nationwide Harris Poll of 1,001 adults conducted annually to determine which movie star is tops in fans' hearts. Johnny Depp is No. 2, followed by the late John Wayne in the third spot, who tied with Harrison Ford. The only women in the top 10 are Julia Roberts at No. 5 and Sandra Bullock at No. 10.
The top 10 movie stars:
Tom Hanks
Johnny Depp
John Wayne and Harrison Ford (tie)
Julia Roberts
Clint Eastwood
Mel Gibson
George Clooney
Sean Connery
Sandra Bullock
Consistency in the top 10 seems to be the rule of thumb this time, as nine of the 10 stars were also on last year's list, though their rankings have been shuffled a bit.
Some notable facts:
Mel Gibson dropped five places this year from No. 2 to No. 7. This excludes him from the top five for the first time since 1994.
Even though John Wayne died 25 years ago, he continues to have a large and loyal fan base. He moved up four places, from No. 7 to No. 3 where he is tied with Harrison Ford.
Julia Roberts dropped two places from No. 3 to No. 5. This year she isn't the only woman in the top 10; Sandra Bullock, who last appeared on the list in 2002, returned at No. 10.
George Clooney and Clint Eastwood both moved up two places--Eastwood from No. 8 to No. 6 and Clooney from No. 10 to No. 8.
Aside from Tom Hanks remaining at No. 1, the only other movie star to retain his position from 2004 is Sean Connery, who remained at No. 9.
Gender and race appeared to play a role in deciding a favorite. John Wayne was tops among men, while women chose Tom Hanks. Denzel Washington retained his No. 1 position among African Americans, while Hispanics were divided between Mel Gibson and Katherine Hepburn as their favorite.
Political ideology also appeared to be a factor in choosing a favorite movie star. Conservatives picked Tom Hanks and John Wayne as their favorites, while liberals chose Johnny Depp.
I still can't fathom how horse-face Julia Roberts is the top woman, out of only 2. Yiiiiiiishhhhhhhh...........![]()

Interesting.. John Wayne, supposed stereotype of what a man should be and Tom Hanks, about as milquetoast as you can possibly get aside from his one brief foray into actual acting in 'Philadelphia'...Conservatives picked Tom Hanks and John Wayne as their favorites, while liberals chose Johnny Depp.

Julia is one of the most over-rated actors out there. Why the public loves her SOOOOO much is a mystery.
A friend of mine was an extra for Oceans 12 and spent time in a house with Julia Roberts for a few days shooting scenes with only a couple other people in the house. Julia never talked to anyone, didn't even make eye contact. My friend said Julia was very stuck-up (and my friend has worked with lots of actors in many different movies). In defense of Julia, she was pregnant at the time, but still.......even an acknowledgment of your presence in a room...not even that.
She looked deathly ill even on film in that movie.Originally Posted by card

It's not even "What has she done lately"? cos we can all list classic actors we love, but the question is, "What acting role/s has she done EVER that was astounding enough to justify her being on this list?"Originally Posted by Voodoo Child

I knew Jennifer wouldn't make it. I never said I liked her movies either.![]()
To be honest, I'm surprised Leonardo DiCaprio is not on there. Don't get me wrong - I'm not one of those young "he's so hot" fans, but his work is really good. I loved The Aviator, The Gangs of New York and, of course, Titanic. He takes his time choosing his roles and when he makes a decision, it's usually the right one. He doesn't fire them out one after another like many. Also, he's been an Oscar nominee twice before the age of 30. That's pretty impressive.
He should be there instead of George Clooney.

That's so funny to hear because her whole supposed appeal is based on the fact that she's "girl next door/down to earth" etc. I never got this impression myself so it's nice to have it verified by someone else. How can anyone who is the richest movie star there is have their feet firmly on the ground?Originally Posted by card
