LIVERPOOL, England (UPI) -- Catherine Zeta-Jones will star in a Hollywood version of the life of April Ashley, Britain`s first transsexual.
George Jamieson was born in Liverpool, joined the Navy at age 14 and was locked up in a high security mental hospital after attempting suicide at age 16, the Liverpool Daily Post reported Thursday.
He eventually became part of a Paris cabaret show and underwent a sex change operation in Casablanca. Since then, April, now 70, has become a high society celebrity, the newspaper said.
She became a top Vogue model, was friendly with John Lennon and reportedly had affairs with actor Omar Sharif and late INXS singer Michael Hutchence.
