Once a year when we go down to California to my BIL's for Thanksgiving I have Highballs before dinner. Or whatever they're calling Sierra Mist and Bourbon with ice these days. Lots of new drinks have come along in the last 30 years. We never had Jell-O shots for example.

Otherwise we stay away from the hard stuff. It's expensive in Oregon due to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. We can only buy it in special state run stores with limited hours and selections. And the prices are jacked up. Thank goodness for our booming wine and craft beer industry!

I love martinis - gin, vodka, whatever.
    I love Manhattans
Whenever I'm on an airplane, and they ask what I want to drink, I usually ask for Bloody Mary mix. I love the combination of tomato and spices. However, I don't really like it with alcohol in it.

I love cocktails and I wish I had more occasion to drink them. I adore the taste of gin and so will happily drink martinis, gimlets, and G&Ts. I tend to stay away from sweet cocktails, as they seem less refreshing to me.

I also love rum and enjoy a well-made mai tai or daiquiri (but I like classic not too sweet daiquiris rather than the fruity variations). One of my favorite rum drinks is Myers dark rum & tonic.

And I will never say no to a margarita (or tequila shots for that matter).

I live in a semi-rural area and my friend/neighbor and I recently heard that way back in the day the person who used to own her house had a still hidden in the woods behind the house. I am trying to talk her into building one!

How costly is the hard stuff? Curious.

Vodka and I are not friends, it starts to close my airway a little and makes it hard to breathe, so a lot of cocktails have become off the table for me. I used to be all about amaretto sours when I was younger, but in the last couple years gin and tonics (with an extra lime) have become my go to drink. Amaretto sours have become too sweet for me.

I love a gun and tonic, it's really nice on a hot porch with lemonade. Try it with topochico water, I'll make strong drinks in the glass, just the liquor and flavoring and let people add the topochico directly from the bottle, it's tasty and yeah...
KILLING ME WON'T BRING BACK YOUR GOD DAMNED HONEY!!!!!!!!!!

Come on, let's have lots of drinks.

Fuck you all, I'm going viral.

What exactly does a "Gun and Tonic" taste like?

I know some people who say it tastes like a tree because of the gin, but I honestly don't taste tree with it. To me it's just a very light and refreshing, and it isn't sweet at all, it's almost like a strong tasting plain seltzer with lime (you know that CO2 flavor in sparkling water, I taste a lot of that in it)? Because I do the extra lime it's also more lime flavored than anything.

Not a cocktail person at all. It goes down too fast for the $$ I pay and I find most bars and pubs water down their drinks. I usually order beer or wine.
What I prefer though is to drink at home.
Grab a bottle of amaretto, fill a tall glass with ice and pour halfway. By the time the ice melts, its ratio with whatever I haven't sipped becomes perfect.
Been drinking Amaretto straight ever since I sang Mr Big's "To be with you' in a tiny Chicago pub when it first came out.
Btw... there are only two brands on local shelves, Disaronno .. heavier on the almond flavor even though it has none in it and Luxardo which drier and a vanilla flavour.
I used to drink half southern comfort and half amaretto on ice. It's called silician kiss and usually served as a shot. Got a gf hooked on this. It packs a punch so best to just sip like you would a cognac.
