I had a friend visit this weekend and we stopped at the liquor store as part of our travels about town.

On leaving, I commented that we had the makings for a Seasons of the Year Drinking evening.

    Basel/ginger vodka cocktails (Spring)
    Margaritas (Summer)
red wine with dinner (any time)
    ginger vodka (fall)
egg nog brandy (my friend) / best beer EVER - Great Lakes Christmas Ale (for me) (Winter)

We unintentionally repeated the process on Sunday by subbing in Bloody Mary's (Football watching requirement) & dropping the ginger vodka.

A fine time was had by all.

I love Fresca and I still have yet to try these. I'm putting it on my list of things to do before 48 hours passes.

These were big when I was in Croatia. Our friend who lives there drinks them ALOT.

    I like Manhattans... too much.

I love a good Margarita, Gin and Tonic, Whiskey Sour, Midori Sour and one of the best drinks I've ever had was a Pomegranate Martini.

Because of this thread - it's Martini time.

Lynnie - we may be kinderd spirits. I tried VERY hard to stay with you in the debate threads - many many poor decisions were made those evenings. Plus your avatar just plain rocks!

I NEVER think about calories when I drink, even though I'm kind of obsessive when it comes to the calorie count of food.

I don't usually order cocktails when I'm out for one simple reason: they're rarely strong enough, and I have no patience to sip countless elaborate drinks, attempting to get pissed.

Mind you, there is this one treasure of a bartender I found who makes LETHAL cocktails. There's this one in particular called Mexican Colonel. I'm not quite sure about all the ingredients-it's mostly tequila, though he assures me the overall alcohol cocktail doesn't fall bellow 40%. It doesn't taste too strong (though is really IS), and has a pleasant tangy/sour bite.

Damn, now I really crave it. Too bad said bar is smack down in the middle of the freakin' RIOTS.

yep..diet sodas are just as good as the sugary filled ones. Plus with a screwdriver, it is vodka and orange juice, with a Greyhound it is vodka and grapefruit juice, a Capecod is vodka and cranberry juice-hell all those juices are good for you!-and of course the vodka is just there for the 'medicinal qualities and purposes ya know, so it is ALL good-in fact, I recommend them for continued good health. I have cut way back, and look what has happened-I am sick as a dog for the last week!

    Lord, I think I'm a lush!

Let's see, I'll drink umpteen kinds of Rum with either Coke or Pepsi, Long Island Teas, Jack and Coke, White Russians, Tall Black Russians, Bailey's or any other brand on ice or mixed with Kahluah, Margaritas in most flavors, Vodka with those fruity syrups, all kinds of beer and Sangria's pretty good too.

I've had to give up the screwdrivers and fuzzy navels though. I have acid reflux real bad, lol. It's pitiful.

I had my last drinking bit for awhile on Christmas night. Apparently I attempted to pole dance in the basement, promised my husband that it would be worth his while to buy me an Xbox 360 with Rock Band and made a general ass of myself. Good times.

My favorite drink is a dirty martini, made with vodka. I also like margaritas and Long Island iced teas.

When I'm drinking, I don't really consider the calories. I just concentrate on enjoying myself.

Necro-ing because there are good drinks in here. That Pegu sounds very good.

Has anyone tasted Orange Bitters? I know it gets mixed in. I don't think I've had them before.
Orange bitters is a cocktail flavoring made from the peels of Seville oranges, cardamon, caraway seed, coriander and burnt sugar in an alcohol base.

    What does Galliano taste like?

I don't like Campari and HATE Negroni's and don't ever ask me about Grappa.

I love to try the old fashioned classic cocktails but so many seem to add cane sugar or syrup, and I don't like sweet cocktails. Those daiquiri's sound refreshing but sweet even made from scratch. I love tart, lots of limes.

"I drink to make people more interesting". - Ernest Hemingway

    Hemingway Daiquiri

    • 2 oz white rum (Havana Club if you got it)
    • 3/4 oz fresh grapefruit juice
    • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
    • 1/4 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
    • 1/4 oz simple syrup 1:1
    • Garnish with a grapefruit twist

Shake all ingredients except the garnish and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
