i'm glad i don't like sweet drinks. i do love a good gin and tonic though but it's not like i have one every day.
and i'll have a frozen daiquiri or a frozen margarita maybe once a year, if that. the real thing, not those crappy, sugary mix thingies.

You guys should try a Bambus!
You can even make it yourself..

"Make sure you have a decent size glass for this. Pour in a SMALL amount of Cognac in the bottom. Then add a lot of Red Wine. Leave about a 1/4 of the glass for the Coke. Once all ingredients are in the glass, just mix and drink. Make sure the Wine is COLD! (you can add ice)."

I hate the taste of alcohol. Might as well gulp Nyquil,to me. If I have a drink it should be cute,in a coconut shell if possible, and it better have an umbrella!

^^Nothing wrong with that honey!! I like a few myself and am not apologetic about it.

Since I like them so MUCH, I try to drink diet Tonic and/or diet soda w/my vodka.

And lets not even get into the beer/wine discussion...

No, I don't worry too much about the calories either.

I like shots of whiskey or rum. Beer is good, so is red wine. Ooo and Goldschläger.

I love vodka tonics with diet tonic water.. a snap to throw together, great with a squeeze of lime, and usually around 100 calories.

ETA: My girl, Lynnie, has the right idea.. flavored vodka and diet sprite/fresca is great, too.. chuck some ice in there and you have a fizzy, yummy, diet cocktail.

Love wine, especially a good Zin or Riesling. Rosenblum makes some of the best Zins and currently I am very into an unusual, slightly sweet white wine made by Ironstone using the rare Symphony grape. They call it "Obsession" which is kinda annoying, but it is a lovely (and cheap!) wine.

I admit, the fact that wine has health benefits is very influential for me...but...

Actually, I much prefer hard liquor; the buzz from it is much more enjoyable since unlike wine it doesn't aggravate my allergies.

I'm weird in that I can't stand the ever popular martini: it's like drinking straight booze. ugh. Though oddly, Manhattans I rather like. Especially with lots of cherries.

Lemon drops are lovely; I also like Cosmos and the many variations one can do on that theme--this summer I tried a pomegranate juice/Absolut citron/splash o' lime/cointreau experiment with excellent results.

Also yummy: something called a Pegu Cocktail. It's very antique, lol.

1 1/2 oz. gin (use a really good, smooth one)
    1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz orange liqueur like Cointreau, Grand Marnier etc.

    Sidecars are great too:

    1 1/2 oz cognac
    1 oz cointreau
1/2 oz lemon juice or lemonade if you like it sweeter

I also like Kir Royales and any champagne cocktail in general. I have subbed Splenda for sugar in one and it tasted fine. You can do that with the rim of a lemon drop glass as well, cuts quite a few calories.

Low-cal margaritas are totally possible. A company called Baja Bob's makes a calorie free margarita mix with Splenda that tastes excellent. Some people dislike Splenda but for me at least it doesn't have the nasty after or undertaste that other sweeteners do.

I don't understand that 700 plus calorie count, though. I mean....how HUGE is their drink? Standard margarita recipe involves tequila, triple sec, lime juice, salt, and maybe some sweet/sour mix, sugar and/or simple syrup, or even lemonade. You'd have to add SO much mix, syrup, etc. to get that figure. Weird.

If I made a very basic margarita, a big one:

3 oz Jose Cuervo 210 cals
2 oz triple sec about 140 cals
1 oz plain lime juice or sweet sour mix or lemonade about 10-35 calories per ounce
dash sugar syrup 50-100 cals for one ounce, approx.

Even if I do 2 oz of mix, I still get only about 400-500 calories..for an eight oz. margarita.

I DO prefer Cointreau to Triple Sec, but it's only about 10 cals more per oz. (Also, Patron makes an orange liqueur that's amazing in margaritas...I can't remember the name...Citronge?)

Chambord makes a great raspberry margarita. I love adding lots of fruit to margaritas. You can then tell yourself it's a healthy drink.

Tropical drinks are wonderful but lethal. Mai Tai's aren't too bad calorically as there's not the huge overload of sweet fruit juice, but unfortunately my favorite is a Painkiller which contains loads of coconut cream, pineapple and orange juice. Sigh. I do NOT wanna know the count on one of those.

Mojitos rock. We made some with fresh mint from our garden this summer!

Argh. Now I want a cocktail. Damn thread.

ETA: Torani sugar free syrups are awesome!! I put the French vanilla one in coffee.
