But PB! It can't be bad for you-I NEVER drink anything without tons of ice. Ice we get is made from filtered water anyway, right from the fridge. What on earth could it screw up? I also like hot coffee with no ill effect. You might not like it, but it's got to be harmless-I'd be long gone!

I don't think ice is very harmful either. I suppose there's just less demand for it in England, since it's usually colder over here. You could ask for a glass of ice if you wanted over here but I think they'd look at you a little strangely.

i crave ice cream in winter but never in summer.

as for using ice to skimp on the drink, here most places bring you a glass and a small bottle of coke so you get the same amount regardless of whether you have ice or not.

There is a drive-up fast food place here (Sonic) that's extremely popular for its drinks, & they always fill it up with tons of crushed ice. Actually, the ice is not exactly crushed, I don't know what to call it, but it's like chunky granules. The large & the extra large sizes are quite big so they're nice on a sweltering day. You can get any kind of soda you want, or tea, & have flavorings put in, like cherry, peach, strawberry, vanilla, etc. I like diet Sprites with cranberry flavoring. Or peach tea, YUM. But yeah, the ice there seems to be one of their attracting factors.

Yes they do, ugh. Almost all of the foods I reject are due to their texture.

It is actually harmful to have a lot of ice in your drinks. I've posted the link before in another thread, I'll see if I can find it.

Most Canadians are pretty shocked by how much ice Americans want in their drinks, even when it's not hot. We get tons of American tourists in Vancouver and waiters are always bitching about how they'll give twice as much ice as anybody here would ever ask for, and their American customers will always complain that it's not enough. I guess it's a case of have a little beverage with your ice. Most restaurant ice tastes foul to me, so even if I did like it, I probably wouldn't ask for it.

Plus, they contribute to kidney stones. Ice is hard on the stomach. I'm not saying people shouldn't use any ice, but maybe not so much all the time.

If I'm at home, I will drink a beverage that's been chilled in the refrigerator with no ice. It's just that if I'm out, no ice means that it's tepid or even hot.

I don't like much ice at all in any drink I'm having. I keep a big pitcher of water at my desk that I get from the water cooler, and when I fill it up I put 3/4 cold water and the rest from the hot tap to bring it to room temp. I can drink way more water that way, too.

I don't keep ice at home, and keep my water filter jug on the counter after I fill it, so the water isn't too cold.

    Maybe I'm just a weirdo

I need ice, no matter what!
I hate beets and borscht. OK-I never really tasted it, but the color is so harsh.

Boy, I sure opened up a can of worms with that whole 'ice' comment, huh? lol! I actually like ice in my drinks but not tons of it. Basically, I just don't want to drink my ice tea or soda pop warm or hot.

BTW I loooove pickled beets. I think they're so good, especially on salads.

I don't 'hate' many foods. I get more grossed out by how things are prepared or served to me, not the actual foods themselves. Stale breads, meats that aren't cooked well (too bloody or too burned), soggy potato salad, wilted lettuce in salads, burned white rice, things like that. I appreciate good food and like I said, I'll try anything, but a lot of people are really sloppy when cooking. When we have potlucks at work, I can spot a good dish. I won't eat something that looks like crap or doesn't look fresh. Those are things I WON'T eat.

Now that I think of it, you know what I hate? Bean dip from grocery stores. That is so nasty. They make this nasty concoction of sour cream, canned mashed beans, artificial guacamole, grated old cheese, put it in layers and call it "Mexican". Give me a break. Bean dip should be outlawed! Taco Bell should be burned to the grown come to think of it! lol! Food like that I hate--commercial stuff.

OMG - I just started gagging reading that cause it reminded me of an experience when I was maybe 13. I went a friends house for dinner and they had like 10 kids. So they bought milk by the truckload straight from a local dairy.

My friend poured everyone a glass and the first swallow I took I couldn't get through the milk. I can't quite explain it, but it had a lougie/spit consistency and I had to literally close my lips to kind of cut through it. (I think now, looking back on it, the milk had probably formed a skin and that's what I got in my glass.) It happened so fast, but I started to gag and out of reflex, took another swallow to try and clear my throat, and I got the rest of the lougie.

I seriously did not drink milk in any form until I was in my seventh month of pregnancy and the craving for it was so strong I couldn't help myself (6 or 7 years later). And even then I strained it and would drink it mixed with Ovaltine. I didn't have another plain glass of milk or bowl of cereal till I was almost 30.

I love sauerkraut, beets, caviar, mushrooms -- I am not a fussy eater as long as the food is fresh, not processed, preferably organic, and tasty. Many people who say they don't like certain foods have actually never tasted them. My niece didn't like all kinds of things when she came to stay with us, and now she does. She had food prepared properly, and it made a huge difference.

That said, I don't eat organ meats, pork or anything slimy, but that's about it. And I like pork, I just don't eat it for ethical reasons.
