Wait, let me hop over to Canuckyland real quick. It's just some 7000 miles from here, no biggie. I once got drunk with a friend in SA over Skype. Loads of fun.

Matzoball soup is Jew food, and it's delicious. They're round soft balls made out of matzomeal (which is pretty much just ground up matzah, that big cracker Jews eat on passover) and are in chicken broth. The best matzoball soup either comes from a Jewish grandma or a traditional Kosher deli (kosher-style delis make passable soup, but it's best from actual Kosher delis). It looks like this:

It cures everything! I want some! No, seriously, I love Matzoball soup, but it does have to be from a kosher deli or it doesn't taste like it could and should.

I guess I shouldn't say that I have no idea what 'Matzah' is either. Inform me. Give me the 411 on this stuff.

Matzah is very much like a large cracker. It's religious food in Judaism and eaten during Pesach (Passover). The story behind it is that the Jews leaving Egypt during the Exodus did not have enough time to allow their bread to rise before fleeing and so it was cooked and became cracker-like. In order to remember their struggle Jews eat no leavened bread for the 8 days of Pesach and instead eat Matzah.

Wiki: Matzo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wiki for Matzoballs describes them as dumplings, and I suppose that is the best description for them. It really is a food that there isn't a comparable substitute in non-Jew food (there is a lot of Jewish food that has "secular" versions). It's very much Jewish comfort food, especially when it's homemade, SO delicious.

haha, beat me to it Mira, I was typing it all out

According to the Torah, when the Children of Israel were leaving Ancient Egypt, they had no time to wait until their bread rose, so they baked it before it had a chance to rise, and the result was matzo.

    Interrrrresting. Thanks, ladies.

Never got drunk on Skype yet. Is that like an online phone or something? I'll have to try it out some time

Hope you feel better soon, she-dev! Too bad there isn't a business that delivers this stuff to sick people... that's a great biz idea, actually.
