I get that they were pretty traditional, but I was never crazy for the people/couple cake toppers. And I ESPECIALLY dislike the bride dragging the groom off to his doom. I had a simple beaded heart, but what is common now as a topper?

And I like the early cakes and the 1996 cakes, there seems to be a consensus on 2016 being a huge dud at least as a wedding cake! Seriously...that will not be a trend.

The weddings I went to the last 5 or so years have monograms, fresh flowers or bedazzled hearts for toppers

You would have hated mine. I was 'i don't eat cake and no way my husband and I will cut cake while everyone needs to watch' so I choose just to give a dessert. OMG the reactions I got for not having cake....

Must be American cakes because in 1946 the UK was still being rationed, so the likelihood of having more than one tier was limited unless you saved your sugar ration for a year... and your best mate, and her family.......
