Blue Bell is just not that good, don't get the hype other than conditioning for Texas people. It's been made with HFCS for years now, FFS. It didn't used to be. Instead of a thick, creamy texture, it's more "watery" -- syrupy, sugary, and with uneven icy bits. If you can get it, Amy's Ice Cream is the tops. If not, Haagen-Dazs is way superior to Blue Bell, but for my money it doesn't get better than Talenti Gelato --- the sea salt and caramel in particular.

I'm a Ben & Jerry's whore myself. All the other ice creams taste weird, full of thickeners and additives that give it weird texture. And the HFCS make it overly, sickeningly sweet.

I've had that Talenti flavor, caramel and sea salt because it sounded right up my alley, but I didn't like it. I think I remember it was too soft.

I'm on a green tea ice cream kick right now, b/c the brands I've tried are super creamy and don't have that overly syrupy taste.

If you guys have a blender that can handle it, throw in a bunch of frozen strawberries, cream or milk or half&half or non-dairy milk (be careful not to add too much, if you mess up you have a milkshake), a dash of vanilla and, if needed, some sweetener of your choice. Better than any store-bought ice cream and easy to make any time. Frozen bananas, mangoes, pineapples, other types of berries (raspberries are especially tasty) also work well.

Blender is easier though, and faster. I am into instant gratification. And no cracks about that, young lady!

Just for the non-dairy throw in if we're talking ice cream---I don't care for dairy ice cream, and haven't tried many non-dairy ice creams (Cashewtopia is pretty good, only other kind I regularly buy), but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Luna and Larry's coconut ice cream. Their salted caramel and dark chocolate chunk coconut ice cream is the best iced cream I've ever had. Not icy and crystallized like other non-dairy desserts tend to be. So smooth and creamy, fucking delicious.

Today at the grocery store, I stopped in front of the ice cream freezer and stared. Stared hard. Browsed those ice creams like a library shelf. Then I shook it off and walked away empty-handed. This thread is a brazen temptress hussy!

Texan here. I tried some Tillamook out of desperation, and it's pretty darn good.
