Fortunealy they have to walk passed the kitchen window to get to the door. I'm usually up on my way to the door. No-one, not even my BIL/MIL walks in without knocking.... so my response is to ask them what are they doing and what do they want. Frequently at +decibles...
One weirdo knocked & asked me where something was (I didn't know where it was) then tried to barge passed me into the house, when I asked him what he thought he was doing he said he wanted to use the toilet.... I think I managed to refrain from too much offensiveness but shut the door in his face & locked it.
Does that help answer your question?
Oh, yeah, and townies think that "right to roam" is a good idea.....

I usually have the door locked due to this, but my neighbour who has camping facilities has said that she & her (now late) husband were in the kitchen having breakfast when people just let themselves in.... She's not shy either! but they just seem to think that they have the right to be anywhere they want because its the countryside (and I'm sure that "right to roam" doesn't include the inside of houses!).

Sorry to keep hijacking, but this is just fascinating me. I've been googling "right to roam" and I see where this is a big movement which has apparently gotten people all riled up & ready to assert themselves. Right into a stranger's kitchen, apparently.

    Excellent idea.

Jasper ware is just a little too weird for me - how about blue and white from Britains National Trust:

PS - shudder - carrot top creeps me out! shudder

I think that you've missed a couple of vital points here....
    1) If they hurt themselves while on your property they can (and will) sue you. Even if they are trespassing....
    2) This week we managed to keep them out of the house (its amazing what you can do by staring at someone) however, the f***ing thick-a-pig-sh1t lab that bounced around the garden crapped everywhere....
I swear he only picked it up because I stood there with my hands on my hips glowering..... I have to admit that I relented and called him back from across the field (yeah, I did let him walk half way on purpose) so that he could put it in our bin.... instead of depositing the plastic bag under a hedge somewhere.....

Ah Jasperware, my gran had a biscuit barrel.... I'm not keen on blue & white (willow pattern) as I find the pattern too fussy, I like cornishware tho and similar.

I keep reading where the right to roam does NOT include the vicinity near people's homes or gardens. I swear to goodness, this makes me so indignant!

The problem is Lobes that there is a footpath that goes down the drive and before it reaches the house & "garden" it goes into a field...
I've spoken to our local council about moving it (had a site meeting the beginning of march) because I'd not heard anything from him.... when I phoned him this week, he admitted that I'd not heard from him because HE'S NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT - and don't forget that I get to pay (approx 1k) to have this moved!
However, I want it all done legally so that I can close the gates at the end of the drive and let "them" go via the field..... Oh yeah, these are the twats that are scared of the cows... hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

    (just to keep on topic)

Oooh Toile de vie (or is it tolie de joivre? I can never remember... or probably something completely different...)
