PB, your cake will be gobbled up in seconds flat. Please post your party menu after the party.

    That ugly cake? omg.

    She wanted this:

and got this...... That bride would have every reason to sob.

I've seen that before... my god it still makes me laugh like a goof ball.
I recall trying to get a cake for a friend's birthday; all she wanted was a really amazing chocolate with a basic cream cheese icing I call a place called Dessert Gallery (fing tards) and I tell them what I want and they basically explain to me that I have to order their cakes the way they are. I was baffled; I was like "I see you have this type of chocolate cake; what is keeping you from putting cream cheese icing on it instead of chocolate?" Finally I was like "Do yall even actually make your cakes? You don't do you?" I ended up going to Three Brothers and it was awesome; I told them what I wanted and they were like "easy!" and it was a delicious cake.

The custom cake for my in-laws 40th anniversary party was very disappointing - to me at least. They loved it and thought it was the greatest thing.

And I hate people who won't listen to you.

^^ Disappointing in taste or look or both?

I changed the cake today only because when I spoke to the 5 year old, she then said "all flowers". She now wants strawberries as a side dish. LOL.

So now it's red and pink roses around the perimeter, strawberry cream and fresh strawberry layers. I spoke to another order taker on the phone who couldn't have been nicer.

I think the bride's mis-shapen cake looks kind of cute.

Both! Let me preface my complaints with the fact that cake is my thing. Some people are wine or cigar aficionado's - for me, it's cake. Part of the problem was not the cake place's fault. My MIL wanted fondant frosting on the outside, which I advised against, but she insisted. Any fondant covered cake has to be extra spectacular and have above and beyond filling to make up for the lack of frosting on the outside.

This one was dry and had inadequate filling (just a light smear really).

But also, I bought a ribbon to go around the bottom of each layer, and I bought what the cake lady said to buy so it wouldn't get greasy, and it was still all greasy. But spotty-greasy. So of course that's what I noticed off the bat. And she improvised on a lot of the details (flourishes), even though I'd drawn her a picture with specifics. It was supposed to be understated and simple. She made it really girly and ornate, which I didn't like. But my in-laws liked it, so that's all that matters.

And big shout out to young cake divas! Start 'em early I always say.

I'm not a huge cake fan unless it has a lot of fruit, but I like mine simple and elegant and not too sweet. I find most bakeries pile on the icing and it makes my teeth ache, besides disguising the fact that it's dry or something.

I know that the cake I ordered will be good because it comes from one of the top places in town, and was highly recommended. Plus, the couple who own the shop are absolute perfectionists. But it was pricier than I expected.

Maybe, if you're so inclined, you can share it with me PB? Just for research sake of course. The research places around here are sick of having me come in asking for samples.
