Is Nutella still relatively unknown in the US? It's been around in Europe forever, I even had it as a baby dinosaur.

I don't think Nutella was imported to North America until the '80s. I had never heard of it before then and I've never seen it advertised. I only knew about it because my friend went to study in Germany and reported back about how awesome Nutella was. And then I was surprised to find it on the supermarket shelf albeit in an obscure location. So yeah, not really a mainstream product but you can find it at most major supermarkets.

ETA: The American version of Nutella differs from the European one in that the former has a higher sugar content. No surprise there.

Someone gave me some Nutella muffins over the holidays and they were DIVINE. I could've hoovered all 2 dozen in one sitting if I'd put my mind to it.

Nutella on toasted bread is delightful!

It's so rich you don't need that much. But, like others have said "warning, it's addictive!"

I discovered it during my first pregnancy. I do not keep it in the house anymore. It's an instant ticket to bigger jeans.

I love it, but never buy it-once you had a taste, it's impossible to stop eating it.

And for a REALLY extreme pigout, I like to top it off with a Bonne Maman caramel spread. It'll probably give you early diabetes, but it's delicious.

It's excellent in crepes with some banana slices.

Also, just put it on Ritz crackers--you get the sweety and salty that way. Mmm.

I knew about vegemite and marmite but before I moved over here, I never even heard of Nutella. They also make Nutella candy bars and other things from this product. Upon trying my first taste of it was rather, "interesting". :/

    Nutella is AmAzInG!

I disagree that you need a thin layer, like Vegemite. You need a good layer (im not talking HEAPS) to get the chocolaty goodness.

    I love Vegemite too!

Nutella has been banned from the house, because someone (me) can't not sit down and eat it with a spoon until the jar is empty.

    It is absurdly divine.

Heathen #2 is addicted to Nutella. He sneaks fingerfuls after dinner and then tells me he hasn't had any...which belies the streaks of chocolate across his cheeks. God, he is cute sometimes.
