I asked my favorite doctor at work about this and his reaction was "What! That's ridiculous!" I was treated to a lengthy lecture about how liquids during meals were necessary to aid digestion and keep you regular.
One would expect as much from a traditional allopathic doctor! Not dissing, it just saying... would be interesting to hear what a naturopath or a Chinese medicine practitioner would say.
I wondered that too (above) but McJag never answered.
Eh! Everybody just do what feels right!
He IS Chinese and holds licenses in osteopathec medicine as well as in Eastern medical and traditional Western medicine. I respect his opinion more than that of some under-educated, formerly-stoned, wheat grass juice sniffer aging hippie at the health food store.
In the stores I shop in, the staff are sent to trainings and they aren't let out on the floor until they pass tests. Well like I said, everybody should just do what feels right.. they do anyway!
yeah suppossedly thats what the french do and thats why they're so slender and healthy. I've noticed thats what animals do too. They don't drink and eat at the same time; they do one after the other so maybe there's a point to it all.
I always drink with my meals, especially if my mouth feels dry, because otherwise i cant swallow! That, and the fact i used to have anxiety about eating in the past, so i always had to have water or juice with my food to actually get it down. Its a 'all-in-the-fucked-up-mind- thing.
i don't drink anything with meals except a few sips of water or wine. but in general i drink lots of water throughout the day and about a half hour before meals and then nothing but a few sips while i'm eating. there's no particular reason and it's got nothing to do with all the reasons people have pointed out here, i just noticed that it's what comes naturally. i've never been able to drink coffee or anything sweet or sodas with food anyway. the only thing i'll drink is green tea in lieu of water if i'm out for sushi.
