Lol @ the so aptly named "Taco Patty."

I graduated 5 years ago and recognize some of the basic ones but this stuff looks better than what we were served. They actually made an effort with this stuff (not an effort on healthiness, just creativity, even if it was for the worse lol)

Towards the end of the year in the college dorms, they seemed to either run out of money or just stop trying. I gave up on eating there 'for free' when they serveed 'bagel pizza' which was, literally, bagels with tomato paste and a dash of cheddar cheese on top...uncooked.

The poor man's bagel bites. Yuck.

I stumbled on a blog called Vegan Lunch Box... it has some really cute bento lunches a woman packs for her hubby and son... if only more parents could get on that bandwagon.. these lunches are fucking sick.

If they tried to serve this crap in the prisons, I can guarantee you that the prisoners would be all up in arms about mistreatment & "cruel & unusual" punishment.

We used to bitch about school food all the time back in the day, but just looking at this crap is giving me diarrhea. What we had was gourmet compared to this garbage! I wouldn't even feed that to my dog (although she'd probably love it...she's not too discriminating about what she'll eat, unfortunately)

I remember some tasteless lunches but not much loaded with fat like this. NO wonder kids are so fat these days. What ever happened to celery snacks and pasta with veg?

You're kidding, right? Celery is dead cheap as is pasta and veg. But then, they'd have to have someone actually cook it rather than reheat it in the microwave.

I think they probably look for stuff with a long shelf life so they can freeze it or leave it in the larder for eons.

BTW I'm playing devil's advocate here!

I just recently started packing the kids lunches, mainly due to the canteen serving only crap and at high prices. It's actually good because I know what they're eating and know what they leave behind. The little heathens haven't quite clued in to the fact that they should chuck the healthy stuff so I don't find out. I'm shocked when they tell me what other kids bring for lunch...usually crisps and the like with a bit of processed white bread thrown in for good measure. Gag.

Wow...school lunches didn't look anything like that when I was a kid. I rarely ate cafeteria food but when I did the meals were well balanced and served on a small plate rather than a sectioned tray.

Basically you got meat and 2 veg. Even if the main dish was pizza they'd still scoop corn and salad onto your plate, even if you didn't ask for it.

I have to say that my daughter's school does a good job with their lunch program. She is the high school level now. They have a choice of the hot lunch for $2.50 per day. It includes and entre, 2 veggies/fruits and milk. Or they can choose ala carte whenre they have a great salad bar, wrap/sandwich station or a pasta station. They each cost $3.25 but are all made fresh to order. They have been very good about using only fresh ingredients and list the calories and nutrients on the website. I was packing her lunch until she said she would rather buy.

As far as these school lunches go, ew. That's just nasty...when/if I ever have a kiddo someday, yeah, I'll be packing his/her lunches. Where's the nutrition here?!

LOL weird, you wouldn't think corn + pizza = tasty, but somehow it worked.
