I love my rice cooker and my new food processor but other than that, in my typical neo-luddite fashion, I hate gadgets that make me lazy. I would rather do things the old fashioned way than fill my kitchen with a lot of junk that takes up space.

KitchenAid 5 quart Artisan Stand Mixer

Smooth edge can opener. It makes a tiny perforated line along the top of the can and has little pliers that you use to grip and remove the top so that you never have to deal with the sharp edges of the cut can.

Emile Henry Artisan Ruffled Pie Dish. All of the pies I bake with this come out beautifully, and you don't have to crimp the crust because it happens automatically with the ruffle.

    Williams-Sonoma old fashioned sifter.

Cucina Kitchen Roll Organizer. Put up your three most used kitchen rolls (paper towels, tin foil, saran wrap, wax paper, parchment paper, etc) for easy access.

    Dish drying mat.

Nope I don't have one either. We don't eat enough rice to warrant buying one.

i don't have one either. i don't really make rice that often. even when i make curries - i kind of prefer them with noodles even though i know that's wrong. i'll only make rice if i'm having people over and i make a curry or some kind of dish that warrants it. i guess i'm not a big fan. except in sushi but i don't make that at home either.

I don't have a rice cooker either. I usually do fine with a pot. I've moved too much over the years to take on another gadget that does something I can already do.

I do want the zyliss wine opener though, I've fucked up countless wine bottle openers and I've been looking for an idiot-proof one.

We have a Zojirushi rice cooker that is about 15 years old and works as well as the day we got it. I may invest in one of those can openers that cuts below the lid for a smooth edge. I hate the one I have.

You should! I LOVE my can opener. I will never own the other kind again.

This would be banned for life from my kitchen - (a) because I like everything put away and not sitting on display and (b) I keep paper towels on a roll on my bench but anything that wraps food, like foil or plastic wrap, stays in a drawer where it can't get dusty or covered in cat fur (like everything else in my house).

Same here. I don't like things out and about except for a small utensil carousel. Plus, I have this weird aversion to attaching things to the wall other than pictures. I have a standing paper towel roll. I have standing bath towel and hand towel racks in the bathroom too. I need to be able to move that kind of stuff for my own weird OCD frustrations.

ETA: This is what's in the kitchen now. I've got a thing for birds.
