I never knew walking & drinking could be considered rude. Hell, there's a 'Bucks in the middle of our Macy's, people walk around browsing with coffee in their hand all the time.

I think my point is that it's not considered rude in some quarters any more. But I still question why people can't walk two minutes without clutching some kind of beverage in their hands. Stores that allow drinks around their merchandise are not the norm where I live. Most people are politely asked to leave them outside, and it's not a problem.

I think it's a symptom of a culture that is so "busy" that taking 10 minutes to sit down, relax and drink a coffee and talk to a friend is considered strange. I carry water in my purse, but I don't usually walk down the street swigging from it. When I want a drink, I stop, have a drink and put it back in my bag.

I carry coffee from my car to wherever I'm going occasionally, but that's not the same thing as having it permanently grafted to my hand. I feel the same way about cell phones. My theory is that if every call cost $10, most people wouldn't find it "necessary" to talk on them constantly in the middle of conversations or in public places. LOUDLY. Just another sign of the dumbing down of our culture, IMO.

I can't stand loud cellphone talkers. I'm sorry, but I don't need to have your conversation too. If I need to talk on my cellphone, I'll typically leave wherever I am and go stand outside, or if I'm on transit I'll either talk quietly, ask to call back, or just text message!
