$127.50. Probably too low for a high price area though.

Jesus! Food is a lot cheaper in D.C. than it is here, even though I don't buy a lot of what you buy for your teenagers, Gator. But still....

PB I can only get great prices like that by shopping as smartly as I can. It is the only way I can really afford to feed my teens while I haven't been working much because of my arm surgery. I shop using coupons, buy only what's on sale and use store discounts all the time. I get the things we go through the most and large quantities of things we use from warehouse clubs and all my bulk cooking items such as flour, eggs, cheeses and other dry goods from the Mennonite store. I also have a large garden, small hot frame and a mini orchard and can/freeze/dry lots of produce every year. Those prices are all from the cheapest store in town too.

Okay, Glasgow, since you know so much (LOL), give my grocery from this week a try. Or anyone can take a stab. I think this is fun and interesting (I'm a dork).

Just as a matter of interest on all these lists - how many people does this feed and for how many days??

I don't buy exclusively for the week (I shop every Sunday). I buy whatever I find that I want that's on sale and I usually have basic stuff stocked up. I feed a family of four...me, hubby, 7 year old son and almost-3 year old son. And the neighbor kids, quite often, lol.

And yes, I always buy that many bananas and gallons of milk. All my men are monkey-cows.

I know I'm banging on about this, but those 6lb bananas would cost me nearly $20 at the moment.

^I know, when you posted that, my jaw hit the floor. The way we go through bananas around here, we'd be bankrupt. No, actually, we'd have to find a new fruit to be addicted to.

I find these lists fascinating. I notice nobody buys "real" cheese, just the processed stuff. I guess that's what kids like. I'm also surprised at the amount of canned and frozen fruits and veggies. It's just different....

My bi-weekly list (for 2, but hubby is a vegetarian and eats a LOT):

    2 gallons skim milk
    1/2 gallon 1% milk
24 slices fat free Swiss cheese for hubby
2 or 3 different cheeses for me, usually aged cheddar, Jarlsberg or something French, but small chunks
    big chunk of goat feta
    2-3 quarts of fruit juice
    1/2 gallon orange juice
4 large tubs of non-fat yogurt
2 cans black or kidney beans or mixed beans
    1 pkg. corn tortillas
4 loaves specialty bread (sourdough baguette, fig and anise, olive, multigrain)
1 six-pack of rice pudding (hubby)
    2 small bags of arugula
2 big bags of spinach or mixed greens
whatever fresh veggies look good and are in season -- celery, green onions, green beans, cauliflower, potatoes, yams, zuchinni, mixed peppers, including hot peppers, red and white/yellow onions, cucumbers, etc.
fruit: my hubby eats tons of it -- 2 lbs bananas, mangoes, strawberries, raspberries, pears, apples, oranges, pineapple, melon etc.
    2-4 servings fresh fish (me)
    2 chicken breasts (me)
1 big bag corn chips/salsa (me)
4 fat-free bags of potato chips (me)
    Panda licorice
    Werther's caramels
    1 wholewheat pasta
    1 pkg. brown rice
    1 small bag popcorn
    1 lb. unsalted butter
1 can artichoke hearts in water
    1 sm. container sour cream
    2 canned tomatoes
    2 lbs. coffee

Those are the usual items, plus I buy basics like toilet paper, water, etc. at Costco once a month and shop at small ethnic food stores for olive oil, Parmesan, olives, rice, pasta and all that kind of stuff once a month.

We buy organic if possible, so it ain't cheap. I NEVER spent this much on food when I was single. I ate very well for less than $50 a week, and there were always leftovers! Anyone care to guess what my list costs?

PB, I'll guess that you spend close to 200 a week?

And I wanted to clarify that I simply copied down my receipt for one week...the lists vary week to week.

Oh, I know. My lists vary too, but that list was fairly typical. That was a biweekly list, but it's at least $150 a week, more if hubby goes shopping at Whole Foods and buys flowers and other treats.

I can usually do it for $100 or less a week, but I'm thrifty and don't buy as much as he does. I hate waste. That bill still seems high for two people, and it doesn't include everything.

I buy real cheese PB but I buy it in bulk from the Mennonites. Usually only get the shredded stuff to top things with, Velveeta for the kids and the occasional sliced cheese at the grocery store. You couldn't pay me to eat Velveeta.

I'm going to ballpark Algernon at about a hundred bucks and say more like hundred and forty for PB.

Algernon, my guess for your list is about $55.00. Partially based on the fact that I don't think you live in a high price area like I do. Pacific, I would guess yours is around $170.00 or so, especially if you buy a lot of organic. Only guessing.
