^I love okra, though I haven't had it often.

I like okra, but only if it's cooked a certain way. It's delicious in Thai/Malaysian food.

My mom would make okra gumbo, and I would never eat it because the raw okra looked bad, and I had tried it plain and didn't like it. However, the pictures I just Googled of okra gumbo look pretty awesome. Sorry, Mom!

Thanks. I just went through the 1970's part of the site. Some of the candy there you can get at 5Below. The one that really stood out as not being available was the Marathon Bar. It was a 1-foot bar of braided caramel coated with chocolate. I liked it, but the chocolate would flake off too easily. Also, there are a lot of candy cigarettes and gum cigars on there now that are too politically incorrect to sell in a regular store these days.

That Marathon bar sounds very like a Curly Wurly in the UK. Confusingly, an old UK Marathon bar is what Americans would know as a Snickers, although Snickers is now the brand name used in the UK too.

It is the same, and is listed under both names. It never was described as a Curly Wurly in the US, as far as I know.

Relatedly, I remember someone here saying that Starburst candy was originally Opal Fruits in the UK.

Yes, I used to work for Mars Confectionary UK and it was always confusing that the same products had different names either side of the Atlantic although I think they are trying to be more consistent these days. It's tricky because consumers don't like name changes for well known brands. The UK Milky Way (choc covered whipped nougat) is something else in the US?

If it is just nougat covered with chocolate, it's a Three Musketeers.

If it is nougat, with caramel on top, and then covered with chocolate, it's a Milky Way.

    Three Musketeers! That's it!!

The nougat/caramel one (US Milky Way) is called a Mars Bar in the UK (and Oz). Told you it's confusing.

We do have a Mars bar here, but I've never had it. According to what I'm reading, our version has almonds in it.

That could be a UK Topic bar. Comes with hazelnuts too.

    Snails
    Oysters
    Raspberry and chocolate, yuck
any slimy fish or fish that tastes too "fishy"
any slimy food at all, in fact
cilantro unless it's a tiny amount well-mingled with compatible spices and flavors
    same with rosemary
most nuts--they just taste nasty to me. macadamias are bland but okay. peanuts, disgusting.
    Dr Pepper
    Beer, hate beer. Bitter flavors=NO
red wine that is too tannic and harsh, likewise teas that give that effect. hate green tea
    cow tongue, any organ meats
any candy, cake or whatever that is TOO SWEET. ick.
    marzipan, and hard 'brittle' candies
likewise, anything with saccharin or Nutrasweet
no duck or lamb or other gamey, overrich/greasy meat
no candy that smells like flowers, ugh
horrible chewy nasty kale. don't like greens much except spinach which I love
    blueberries, just don't like
    honeydew melon, ew
mango, too sweet and same as others here said
    I fucking despise plums
the sort of scotch whiskey that tastes and smells like furniture polish or paint thinner
squishy white bread, makes me imagine it's made from slaughtered Pillsbury dough boys
    corn nuts
salt and vinegar potato chips, really any disgustingly artificial-flavored potato chips
processed aka fake aka Velveeta-type cheese
most all canned vegetables, especially rubbery canned green beans
    soy beans in any form
    crawfish, lobsters, prawns...insectoid food

mushrooms...some taste okay but I just don't trust fungus
Did you know that every time a parent gives in to their kid's whines and buys them candy at the checkout lane, a kitten gets diabetes?-Dlisted

I adore okra. I make some pretty amazing chicken with okra in red sauce. I have also converted the boyfriend who had never even seen okra before coming to Greece. It can be a bit slimy but this has never bothered me.

On the other hand, I'm a bit weird about string beans. I used to love them but I got a bad stomach flu and barfed string beans for an entire night. Not fun and I have been off them since.

Okra is delicious breaded and fried, southern style. I add hot sauce of course.

Okra is slimy and disgusting. My mom used to try to hide it in other stuff when I was a kid. I always picked it out (with the onions).

Okra is OK quickly deep flash fried Indian style with lots of spices. It's not slimy that way. Anything else, yuk.
