Fried okra is the nectar of the fat, southern gawds. Love some fried squash too.

Thank you! Had some fried okra yesterday along with some barbeque from Pok-E-Joes. Yummy!

Fried okra is tasty, but I really dig stewed okra and tomatoes. It's not slimy to me if done right. Shrimp gumbo wouldn't be the same without it.
I love root beer, but never drink it.
    Grits and polenta are great.
Peppers of all spices and varieties rock.
Love most seafood, but not adventurous enough for crap like sea cucumber.
    Broccoli and cauliflower rock.
Sauerkraut smells just like vomit to me, but I love it on a bratwurst or reuben sandwich.
Take away my pasta and I will cut you.
I like a lot of fruit, but like others have said, I don't crave it and rarely eat any.

    Don't like:
    mayo (hurl)
water chestnuts (crunchy watery tasteless dreck)
    not a big eggplant fan
    sweet potatoes in any form
    pumpkin/pie
candy of any kind other than chocolate
    steak
organ meat and sure as hell not eyes or brains
canned fruit/veg other than some varieties of beans
    pears
    sweet pickles
    sweet tea
most mushrooms but can handle them on a pizza/in sauce and always have time for shiitake
the mere thought of panini sandwiches, particularly with chicken, makes me gag, I don't know why.

Oh, marshmallows! Okay, raw marshmallows are basically congealed devil semen. But I will most definitely eat them burnt to a crisp over a campfire (lightly toasted just isn't in the cards for me).

Ok. It was a bad phrase. Lololol! I didn't even think about the sexual innuendo attached to it. Carry on peeps!

I can't believe the fruit hate! Nor even the fruit ambivalence! I average about 5/6 servings a day, I could eat nothing but fruit and be happy. I went through maybe 16 bags of cranberries within November alone (and I don't even sweeten them!). I've never tried many foreign fruits though, never much around me. My friend's mom brought her an entire suitcase of quenepas from Puerto Rico, and my friend gave me some as she knows I'm a fruit fiend, and I ended up eating nearly the entire bag... and it was in a small trash bag. It was like sucking on a small alien testicle, I loved them, but I have no idea where to get more. There are persimmons and starfruit at a Whole Foods near me, but they're always bruised and battered, same with the papaya, and since they're all like $5 each, I can never justify spending the money in case they're overripe or too young.
You can find quenepas, also called Spanish lime, in any Hispanic neighborhood. Nearly all fruit stores, markets and fruit carts will sell them during the late summer months- harvest is usually August.

Thank you for that info! I live around a lot of Hispanic neighborhoods, during the summer there's some farmer's markets in a town over from me that may have them, I haven't seen them in the past but I've heard whispers that they sometimes make an appearance.

There's very little I don't like. Because of my eastern European background and my husband's chinese background, we eat pretty much everything.

While I love shitake mushrooms, I think I'm allergic because they make my mouth go all weird after I eat them. So I've started avoiding them.

nwgirl - when we go for pho, I always order the one with the tendon. You pick what meat you want, and I order rare beef and tendon. It's really nice if cooked correctly
