I have made various vinaigrettes, but the dressing I make most often is for cole slaw and macaroni salad.

How could I make homemade Thousand Island? I could google, but maybe somebody on here has a good recipe. It's my favorite.

No ideas about Thousand Island dressing but here's a failsafe vinaigrette from a French friend.

Pour a good dollop of red/white wine vinegar (I prefer red as it's more flavourful) into a jar or whatever you use. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and let sit for at least 15 minutes. ***This is crucial to the flavour.

Then add half as much extra-virgin olive oil to the vinegar. Add some black pepper, a bit of Dijon mustard (dry or wet, but this step is optional) to taste, shake and voila!

Last night I cooked dinner at my boyfriend's house. I assumed he would have salad dressing, so I didn't bring any with me. After making the salad, I realized there wasn't any, so I just spritzed some lime juice over it. It was actually delicious!! I'm going to start doing it more often.

Lobelia, this one just came in one of my recipe magazines. I haven't tried it, but thought I'd share since you asked:

    Thousand Island Dressing:
    1 1/2 cups mayo
    1/2 cup chili sauce
    1 hard cooked egg, chopped
    2 tbsp finely chopped celery
2 tbsp finely copped green pepper
2 tbsp chopped pimiento stuffed olives
    1 tbsp grated onion

    Yield: 2 cups

    **I think I have a lo-fat/lo-cal version somewhere too. I'll see if I can't find it.
You were lucky to have me. But you know what? I think I already got the best part of you. And she's standing right out there. I don't know... what's left just doesn't look so good anymore. Hope Floats

It's my most fave dressing too!

I'd think the easiest way to make it is to mix equal amounts of mayo and ketchup then add some chopped up pickles.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

My mom used to make a passable Thousand Island dressing just by mixing up Ketchup and Mayonnaise. Need to experiment on the ratios though, but it was good.
My hubby likes my Sorghum and Balsamic Vinegar Dressing, with a touch of oil added so it will stick to the salad. Half sorghum and half balsamic vinegar.

I usually make my own vinagrette (1/2 oil 1/2 wine vinegar + tsp mustard). The only bought dressing I really like is Cardini's Original Caesar dressing. They claim to have invented caesar salad using this very dressing which I'm a bit sceptical about but it IS delicious.
