That is awesome! My 9 year old son saw this (huge SW fan) and wants one for his birthday. Are you a professional cake maker?

JFC, that goes in the hall of fame of cakes. I buy my cakes from WalMart cuz I'm lazy with very limited baking skills. I can't imagine the hours put in.

bella, your daughter is awesome for wanting this and so are your cake-making skills. i am beyond impressed. my baking skills are limited to buying ready-made pastry and baking a pie with it, and that easy fondant stuff that is just butter, chocolate, eggs and sugar.

Bella, tell us what it's filled with...what kind of cake is it?

I'm not great at carving spheres so I used a special "ball" pan to create the shape.

See now that's the best compliment anyone could give. Any time kids like it, it trumps everything else. Tell him thank you!

Seriously though, Walmart has some really good white cake.

Bitter, I gave my kid tons of choices (peanut butter yellow cake with jelly filling, chocolate chip cookie dough cake, etc etc) and she picked plain old yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting for one layer and chocolate cake with vanilla frosting for the big tier on the bottom. I keep trying to nudge her to things that are more fun but no luck. They're all from scratch though so at least it was fun.

Thanks greys. You have a good memory! That cake was for my almost four year old's first birthday.

Don't expect that to change! Still, after lo these many years that is exactly what my son still wants for his birthday.

Here it is, warts and all. I plan to make a few adjustments (varying the heights of Harry and friends for instance) before the party tomorrow. I added some detail to the Death Star and I shouldn't have. It looks too busy and I managed to ding it up a bit. My kid loved it though.
