At home I drink freshly brewed with a splash of milk or cream if my mother is in town. No sugar of fake stuff. At Starbucks I spend almost five bucks on an iced 3 shot nonfat latte with a shot of sugar-free hazelnut syrup. A frankenfood, but a splurge. I drink 3 or so a month. You know, when I am buying those 4,000 dollar dresses.

Always fresh-ground beans, either Illy, Kicking Horse, Salt Spring Island (a local organic brew) or other various organic, free-trade kinds. HATE Starbucks. Frequent Italian delis, or Caffe Artiggiano, a great Vancouver chain. Their owner has won Barista of the Year awards in Italy two years running.

I usually have a non-fat latte with a double shot of espresso in the morning if I'm out; if I'm home, I have coffee in a big cup with lots of steamed milk (a poor man's Americano). Later in the day I'll have a cappuccino with a single shot and non-fat milk. Sometimes I like a straight shot of espresso in the afternoon.

If milk isn't available, and the coffee is fresh, I drink it black. NEVER NEVER ever take non-dairy creamer. It's like injecting oily chemicals into a vein -- ugh. I'd rather go without coffee. I've cut down to two/three a day, but it's all quality stuff.

    I also love good tea.

If you do it you have to do it in your espresso machine (if you have one) with ground coffee beans so that the flavours can blend but not overpower.

I rarely drink coffee, because my nervous system is so overstrung, but when I do, it's the good stuff-organic Arabiga from my family's plantation. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but it's great. Black and sugarless.

Starbucks sucks, though. And they're nasty corporate whores who crush local microeconomies. They bought some coffee from a relative at well below the market price (fluctuating around $100 for a quintal, which is 225lb) and they sell it for 3 times that. I would boycott Starbucks, but there aren't any here, which rather defeats the purpose.

I just cannot IMAGINE drinking coffee black. It makes me shudder to think of it.

Question: Did you black coffee drinkers start out that way, or did you just lessen the cream/sugar over time?

As I said, my mother's family is in the coffee business, so I was told that it was the ONLY way to drink it since my early youth. It's good with milk and sugar, but it doesn't even taste like coffee, in my opinion.

I have always liked my coffee light. My family is Mexican and they drink it light and sweet but I have never cared for sugar in coffee or tea.

I was brought up on coffee so I've always had it black. Anything else tastes wrong.

I was raised on it too. They say it stunts your growth. I am the tallest person in my family. I am 5'7"-58" on a good day. My granny was 5'11 but my parents are 5'6".

I'm 5'2" maybe it does!! I started out drinking it black (age 8 or so) simply because my mum did and I thought that was cool. Then started drinking it with milk, but I tend to have more cups of coffee if I'm drinking white than black. Got back into black having that disgusting cigarette ash coffee from a machine (fake milk makes me nauseous for some reason) and then started drinking my own coffee black. If I have instant (which I usually do) I'll drink it with milk, but i it's freshly brewed (which I never seem to have time to do, not in the house long enough to drink a whole jug o coffee) I'll drink it black. Never Never put sugar in the coffee unless it's a syrup in a latte
