Had a little dinner party thing last friday (which my mum cooked and I passed off as my own - they believed me, feel so bad!)

Anyway, she went overboard and got me a cheese board with brie, cheshire and five counties cheddar. (she even put grapes on it - bless her!)Knew full well no one would eat it because after the meal everyone was busy drinking so I now have a fridge full of this cheese that my boyf doesn't eat. Turned into a cheese obsessed rodent, been bringing in plates with crackers all week and sit there nibbling and spraying crumbs everywhere. Love the stuff but my favourites got to be the Austrian smoked stuff and the garlic Roulade.

When I emailed Kraft, they wouldn't give me an absolute answer...I just got that some of their cheeses do include animal based rennet. So no Kraft for me.
With a lot of the brands, SOME of their cheeses use synthetic and some do not. For instance, a lot of the sharp cheddars use animal based rennet even if, in the same brand, the mild cheddar does not.
Please tell me what synthetic rennet is? Do I want to eat cheese that has this or do I want the animal based rennet?? Im so confused.

If you're a vegetarian, you want synthetic rennet. Animal rennet is made from the lining of the fourth stomach of ruminants, usually cows.

Synthetic rennet is usually made from yeast, bacteria, cynara, or fungi.

    (Hubby is a former vegetarian.)

I know what you mean. Although I have to be half cut to eat blue cheese in the first place, I'm a bit scared of it when I'm sober....
A big boy did it and ran away.

I love laughing cow light triangles...and alpine lace lite swiss, love asaigo w/ walnuts, parm/reggiano is another fave...fab w/ red wine! And extra sharp ched is fab as well...and provelone. I think the only cheese I despise is American, processed crap...fake nacho liquid junk.

I also love feta, and goats cheese!
