I have a few: lobster, Dungeness crab, exotic tropical fruit like mangosteen or starfruit, fresh young peas and artichokes, expensive cheeses, Kobe beef.

Oh yea Lobster! Filet Mignon! Any and all seafoods and lots of em!!!
A good bottle of wine too! Damn its hard to spend $75.00 on ONE bottle of wine, but once in awhile, when someone else is paying, you just gotta do it!

Zuppa de Pesce/Fruitti di Mare...fra diavolo style. It's not exactly "luxury food", but it is often the more expensive, if not the most expensive item on the menu. I love everything in it - the calimari, mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops... The only thing I don't really like is when they add what I call "mystery fish", which is usually some random whitefish.

Beluga caviar. I only ever have any on New Years, so the anticipation might have something to do with it, too.

I guess you have to define 'luxury' because it all depends on where you live and what the local produce is. Smoked salmon is considered a real treat by people who don't have access to it, but for those of us lucky enough to be able to buy it cheaper than a good steak then it's just another sandwich filling.
Australia is blessed with such an enormous abundance of almost any kind of food, luxury or otherwise, you can imagine it's hard to think of something really special to eat on special occasions. Our wine kicks ass too.
So I have to nominate something really weird as my 'luxury' food because they are not available here and only the Brits will understand this one. Twiglets. LOL

    What are twiglets?

It's very true what you say A*O. For example. I live 20 minutes away from the town of Gruyères, center of the region that produces the Gruyère Cheese, so here Gruyère is what you'll find in every fridge. YUM!!!
But, living inland, sea fish and seafood is indeed a treat.

I'm not much into luxury food, though. I buy all the organic food I can find, so all my food costs a little bit more than the regular products, that's MY luxury

Twiglets are a savoury snack in the UK. I've never seen them anywhere else. Imagine a small baked wholewheat 'breadstick' with little dots of Marmite/Vegemite speckled over them. See the Vegemite thread for details on that particular product. Aussies LOVE their Vegemite, it's a staple nursery food for kids (and grown ups) so I was amazed to discover that no enterprising local biscuit manufacturer has tried to copy Twiglets here. Hey, maybe I just thought of a great business opportunity!

hmmm... that's a tough one. it's hard to describe, they've got a very strong flavour you either love or hate, and it's unmistakeable. once you try a truffle, you'll never confuse the taste of it for anything else. they don't really taste like the mushrooms we're accustomed to eating, though they do have a strong sort of earthy mushroom taste. the black ones have a much stronger taste but the white ones are more delicate.
sorry, i don't think that was very helpful...
