If I'm not too hungover, I usually make a seafood gratin that's ridiculously rich and decadent, but oh so good. I serve it with scalloped potatoes and a green salad.

We're having sauerbraten, spaetzle, a baguette, chocolate cookies, and some sort of vegetable soup. But we don't really have a tradition of it.

^^It's a tradition that's supposed to bring good luck and prosperity for the coming year. My Dad is very supersticious and makes us eat at least one serving. He also calls everyone he knows to remind them to not wash clothes on New Year's Day because it's supposed to wash away good luck. My Mom usually unplugs the washing machine to pacify him.

Well Ill be darned I learn something new everyday. I never heard of washing clothes. Im taking that into consideration this year. I know my stepmom always made us eat at least 12 black eyed peas, one for each month.

Leftovers from Christmas, usually disguised in some way so nobody knows they're leftovers.

We just had a pork roast with sauerkraut. That's what I was told you eat for good luck on New Year's Day. My son on the other hand, didn't want to eat, keep in mind, he's not even 2 and 1/2 yet, so we gave him applesauce to eat with his pork. He starts falling asleep and I let him down from the table and he goes off to the living room. I go check on him and he's sitting at his little tykes table eating a slice of pizza! Other than a smacked butt, I don't know what else that brings, so we figure if he's awake enough to eat pizza, he's awake enough to get back to the table and eat pork. I don't know if that should be considered a sign of things to come in the New Year or not. Especially since the washer has been going non-stop today.

Tried to have boiled cabbage, but didn't get groceries the day before. We live in a small town-one grocery store-so they were sold out of cabbage. I freaked! We had to have cabbage! So I ended up doing sauerkraut with smoked sausage, black eyed peas, bbq pork chops, mac n' cheese ( for my youngest who eats next to nothing!) mashed potatoes and corn bread!
I would not let anyone wash clothes, either1 Not really superstitous, jsut didn't want to press my luck!!

Left over buffet from the night before, soup and crisps. I was so beyond hungover that I couldn't have prepared anything myself.

I don't really do anything New Years day, I remember last year me and my bf went out for a meal and we were gunna go clubbing after. He told me town should be busy, he said everyone goes out new years day - night! Never having been out New years day coz I was only 7 I believed him. To my embarrassment he was wrong! I got dressed uin my cutest LBD, sparkly heels, but the bars were dead, just a few regualrs staring at us!!

Anywho, I usually eat hot ot, its traditional apparently!
