    Default Marmite

So... Who loves it and who hates it?

I was curious whilst in the supermarket the other day and bought a jar, I sometimes like strange things so thought I'd give it a go.

All I can describe it as is gravy granuals mixed with dog turd, it was disgusting I felt like ripping my tongue off and stomping on it!! OK so I'm over reacting but it did serioualy make we wanna puke!

I found out my sweet little 74 year old granny likes it though so I'm gunna give her the jar

Well I'm gonna be brave and face a barrage of abuse here but I like it!

It's nice spread REALLY thinly on hot buttery toast and its gorgeous, if you spread it thick your just asking for trouble as it is strong.

Right you can start the slanging match and call me disgusting.

p.s it's actually very good for you too, and the Australian version is Vegemite.

Like the OP said, either you love it or you hate it; there's no gray area, but you don't know until you try it.

I'll do a treat exchange with you...a small jar of Marmite for a couple of boxes of Hot Tamales. Interested?

Well I suppose I shouldn't have tried it by dipping a spoon in to the jar and eating the whole lot!!

I'm gunna try it like you said and see if its any different, if its not, then you'll get some abuse!!

As a matter of fact I love Hot Tamales and I have a huge box in my pantry right now. I will send them to you with my super duper mind control powers.
My candy weakness is Hot Tamales and Raisinets.

I have to go to expensive importers to get ahold of Hot Tamales. I can sometimes find Reese's Peanut Butter Cups at Asda, but I've never seen Three Musketeers or American-style Milky Ways here. They say a UK Mars bar is a US Milky Way bar, but it's not true. They're very similar, but a UK Mars bar is heavier, denser, and sweeter than a US Milky Way. A UK Milky Way is somewhat similar to a Three Musketeers, but it tastes like it has honey in it which makes it too sweet for my tastes.

It is next to impossible to find Hershey's products here, full stop, especially the plain chocolate bars or Hershey's kisses. I used to like an occasional Hershey's bar with almonds. Haven't had one in years.

I miss my American junk food. I feel like a POW or something.

They may look strange but they are soooo good. They are soft and excellent with a little olive oil drizzled over them, that is how my friend introduced me to them a few weeks ago. You can find them in the store and they come in either a can or glass jar, I prefer the glass jar. Im also into Artichoke Hearts.
You can also put the hearts of palm in salads.
