    Default Tea in a teapot

After many years of being packed away my beautiful teapot has been unearthed.

    Could someone please tell me:

    1. The best way to make loose leaf tea.
    2. Recommend some brands.
    3. Is a tea cosy necessary?

    All replies are gratefully received.

Thank you all in anticipation of your words of wisdom.

This is a question for Poms! I think there's a thread somewhere else about this that answers all your questions.

if you brew green tea, brew a batch and then toss the water, and brew it again. do not use boiling water, just very hot water. If you use boiling water, it makes the tea bitter. By double brewing, you get rid of the bitter oils and bring out the aroma and flavor of green tea.

But black tea is better with fresh boiling water. NEVER reboil a kettle with old water. We drink mostly green tea these days, especially now you can get some with various subtle flavours like jasmine, mint, earl grey, etc. I'm not a tea ponce when it comes to the bag/loose debate but MrAO swears loose tastes better. I suspect he's probably right but bags are much less messy.

Let's make this dirty. There is an tea infusion (tisane) of orange, rosewater and mint that is to be drunk before making the love which is supposed to perfume the juices.

    Saw it in a movie.

Brands - there's an Australian company called T2 which make awesome teas. We stock them at work, and I **highly** recommend the Earl Grey, Girly Grey, Sencha Quince, Russian Caravan, Irish Breakfast and Gunpowder Green varieties.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea (heh), but Earl Grey is the gold standard for me. I haven't found a brand of it yet that I won't drink.
