Default Price of chicken breast by YOU

OMG!

we just went food shopping a bit ago and chicken breast was $5.49 per pound!

I remember bitching when it was up to $3.99 - when they hell did it hit $5+???

I couldn't bring myself to buy it so I bought a 16lb turkey for .99 a pound.

How much are chicken boobs by you?

They are if you go to Aldi and get the big bag of frozen boneless, skinless (nonbreaded, of course) chicken breasts. They probably aren't the best quality, but like everything at Aldi, they're CHEAP. That's where I do my shopping for that stuff.

As a teen, I used to work at the local supermarket at the meat counter. I remarked to the butcher why the chicken breasts were so expensive per pound. He told me the chicken breasts were already deboned for you hence the high price. He said it would be cheaper if you just get your own filleting knife, and debone the chicken breasts yourself.

Good God! Between Meijers and Krogers they are on sale at least evey other week packaged and fresh for usually $1.99 a pound. If I want some I just wait for it to go on sale at that price(not a long wait) buy a bunch and just freeze some of it. I would never pay more than that for it.(this is boneless, skinless chicken breast I am talking about)

^^^Yeah, same here. Or I'll wait until Meijer has their bags of frozen boneless breasts buy one get one free. One week they had buy one get two free. My freezer always has backup chicken in it, just by waiting for the sales.

I usually buy the free range skin on, boneless and do the honours myself. That retails around $5 a pound, but I'm only buying for one so it's not too bad.

It only takes a minute to skin them, although I admit it's not my favourite job. The more convenient the food, the more you will have to pay for it. I don't even mind bone in chicken breasts. I'm not terribly fussy unless I'm making a specific dish, then I'll be sure and buy boneless.

I think cheap chicken is one of the few consolations we get here for living in the Midwest.

Depends what kind you want. Waitrose free range organic is £17.99 a kilo. What's that, about £8 a pound? The bog standard stuff is about a tenner a kilo, about £4.50 a pound. And the bone in ones are about half that.
